Microsoft Research AI Frontiers lab is seeking applications for the position of Senior Creative Technologist in the Research Prototyping Team.
The mission of the AI Frontiers (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/lab/ai-frontiers/overview/) lab is to expand the pareto frontier of AI capabilities, efficiency, and safety through innovations in foundation models and learning agent platforms. Some of our projects include work on Small Language Models (e.g. Phi, Orca), and Agentic AI (e.g. AutoGen (https://microsoft.github.io/autogen/stable/) , OmniParser (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/articles/omniparser-v2-turning-any-llm-into-a-computer-use-agent/) , Magentic-One, Magentic -UI ).
The goal of the Research Prototyping Team in AI Frontiers is to bridge cutting-edge AI research with real-world applications by embedding research efforts in practical, high-impact scenarios. The team will serve as a conduit between foundational innovation and deployment contexts, ensuring that research questions are grounded in real user needs and that insights from deployment inform future research directions.
We are looking for a Senior Creative Technologist with a solid foundation in both Design and Software Development, who is user-centric, creative, and comfortable working in a high-paced, innovative environment with highly technical research teams.

Responsibilities
+ As Senior Creative Technologist in AI Frontiers, you will lead the design and front-end development of prototypes in collaboration with other researchers, engineers, and product groups or external customers.
+ You will work with our Technical Program Management (PM) team to understand customer needs and our research portfolio to create compelling proof of concepts so customers can take advantage of our innovations.
+ You’llshowcase your creativity, analytical thinking, and deep understanding of user-facing technologies to drive efficient, high-quality execution and communication, while launching innovative AI features.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related fieldAND 4+ years’ experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
+ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
+ OR equivalent experience
+ 2+ years’ experience working on user-centeredGenAI products or prototypes
+ 4+ years’ experiencein designing, prototyping, and developing immersive experiences
+ 4+ years of experience in Pythonand Web development (JavaScript, ReactJS, node, html)
Preferred Qualifications
+ Keen interest in real-world applications and impact
+ Understanding and passion for design thinking
+ Ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
+ Design portfolio of public user-centered products or prototypes that have been developed
UX Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
