The College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office is seeking to fill a Web Computing Specialist position within the newly developed CAS IT Apps and Development Team. The computing environment served by this position is complex along several dimensions and the successful candidate will collaborate broadly to thoughtfully blend central standards and guidelines with local expertise and requirements to create an environment that is stable and reliable and innovative. Equally important to the technical challenges is the ability to successfully interact with clients, enabling them to complete their mission at the University.
In collaboration with CAS IT Leadership, and under general guidance from the Manager of Apps and Development the primary focus of the position is to support the Statistics and CSSS departments web infrastructure. This exciting opportunity is for a Web Developer experienced with the Drupal CMS to manage multiple departmental web sites and internal web-based applications. A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong service-oriented approach, creativity, and energy to support the web development needs of our growing user base.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining multiple departmental websites and web-based applications, including a graduate student applicant and tracking application, account management and billing application and other web-based applications in support of the operation of the department.
Delivering outstanding systems support. You will also be expected to proactively identify areas for improvement, drive projects, and successfully implement changes in the environment.
Participating in the planning and implementation of new applications and emerging technologies into the production environment, including coordinating and executing changes at the platform and application level.
Responsibility for planning and execution of tasks and projects with minimal supervision. Serve as backup to the other IT staff on the team during vacations and absences.
Flexibility to perform occasional work outside of normal business hours/days (quarterly maintenance window, critical infrastructure downtime).
In collaboration with CAS IT Leadership, and under general guidance from the Assistant Director of Apps and Development the primary focus of the position is to support existing Apps and Develop new tools and systems to improve access to data and systems in a more strategic and scalable way

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Web Developer
+ Maintain a new department website using a Drupal Framework.
+ Maintain a web-based application to review and track graduate student applications.
+ Monitor and respond to alerts of service outages with a goal of minimizing downtime and ensuring system stability.
+ Perform performance monitoring and assessment resource utilization to ensure peak potential of the computing infrastructure
+ Develop and design new features for existing websites.
+ Revise user interface and website features based on user feedback.
+ Conduct thorough testing of user interfaces in multiple platforms to ensure all designs are rendered correctly, and systems function properly.
+ Validate the technical feasibility of website designs while applying best practices in designing and testing for accessibility.
+ Verify that websites comply with current operational procedures and UW policies, including security, privacy, and accessibility.
+ Integrate internal and third-party web tools and applications as needed.
+ Maintain thorough documentation of all programs and procedures.
+ Contribute to web strategy discussions, offer solutions, and perform other tasks related to our dynamic and collaborative approach to web development.
+ Ensure applications are scalable, secure, and meet institutional standards.
+ Integrate applications with existing systems such as:
+ Student Information Systems
+ Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle)
+ Identity Management (e.g., LDAP, SSO, Shibboleth)
+ Library systems, HR, and Finance platforms
+ Work closely with academic departments, IT teams, and administrative offices.
+ Ensure applications comply with FERPA, HIPAA, and other relevant regulations.
+ Implement secure coding practices and conduct regular vulnerability assessments.
+ Develop tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting.Documentation/New technology research
+ Create user documentation and training materials.
+ Translate user requirements into technical specifications.
+ Maintain awareness of technology advances and collaborate on applying new approaches.
+ Other Duties as Assigned **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ BS in information systems, web design, computer sciences or a related field and minimum of
+ Two+ years of web development and application support. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Thorough knowledge of the jQuery API, DOM API, HTML and CSS and solid experience creating, maintaining and writing queries for relational databases such as MS-SQL and MySQL.
+ Development experience with Drupal, especially theming/front end development and site administration.
+ Demonstrated expertise in building web sites or web-based applications.
+ Outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of users with varying technical abilities.
+ Strong organizational, task-management and prioritization skills.
+ Keep current with campus standards, technology developments and College guidelines to ensure that the highest standards of reliability and performance are met.
+ Demonstrated experience working with minimal supervision, both independently and in a collaborative team environment and within deadlines.
+ Demonstrated client service skills and the ability to work with personnel of various levels of technical background.
+ Excellent written and oral communications skills.
+ Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of desktop and workgroup server computing environments.
+ Self-motivated, resourceful, and proactive.
+ Operationally minded with experience developing, implementing, and managing effective processes and systems.
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
+ Ability to exercise independent judgement and creatively solve problems. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Experience building fast and scalable RESTful APIs and experience designing scalable data models.
+ Experience with object-oriented JavaScript and BackboneJS, Ember or similar JavaScript framework.
+ Experience building sites in Drupal 10 or greater, with an emphasis on front-end development
+ Experience with Wordpress
+ Experience creating a user interface suitable for less technical content creators.
+ Experience integrating third-party libraries and APIs
+ Experience using Git with a command-line interface
+ Experience using a cloud-based hosting platform
+ Experience with Composer
+ Experience with CSS frameworks and JavaScript libraries.
