    Chenega, in partnership with **NASA** , is hiring a **Firefighter/Lieutenant** to lead emergency response operations at Kennedy Space Center. In this role, you’ll supervise a skilled crew, operate advanced firefighting vehicles and equipment, and respond to a range of emergencies on-site and in surrounding communities.

     

    You’ll need strong leadership, technical expertise, and physical readiness to manage high-pressure situations and ensure team safety. From structural fires to HazMat incidents, you’ll be on the front lines of protecting one of the world’s most important space facilities.

    Responsibilities

    + **Lead and supervise** a fire crew during both routine operations and emergency responses, ensuring safety and effectiveness at all times.

    + **Respond to emergencies** including fires, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and aircraft-related events using the Incident Command System (ICS).

    + **Operate and maintain** all fire apparatus and equipment, including pumpers, aerials, ARFF units, and specialized tools.

    + **Ensure readiness** by conducting daily checks of vehicles, gear, and equipment, and maintaining a clean, serviceable state of all assets.

    + **Train and mentor** personnel through daily drills, certification programs, and ongoing professional development.

    + **Maintain compliance** with all safety regulations, department policies, and operational procedures.

    + **Perform fire prevention and rescue tasks** , including forcible entry, ventilation, extrication, first aid, and salvage operations.

    + **Other duties as assigned.**

    Qualifications

    + **Firefighter II Certification** from DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Florida State Firefighter Minimum Standards.

    + **Fire Officer I and Driver/Operator Certifications** (Pumper, Aerial, ARFF) from DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Florida State.

    + **ICS/NIMS Compliance** : Completion of ICS 100, 200, 300, 700, and 800.

    + **Minimum Qualifications** : High school diploma or GED, age 21+, valid Florida Class E driver’s license.

    + **Security & Background Clearance** : Must be eligible for a security clearance, with no felony convictions or drug history.

    + **Language & Communication** : Must be fluent in English and able to follow written and verbal instructions.

    + **Psychological & Drug Screening** : Must pass psychological evaluations and comply with drug/alcohol-free workplace policies.

    + **Must meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications.**
