    Center for Africana Studies

     

    Director

     

    Under the supervision of the Senior Vice President of the Division of EEI, the Director of the Center for Africana Studies (Director 4) is responsible for the leadership, administration, and development of the Center’s academic, research, and community outreach initiatives. The Director will play a pivotal role in advancing the Center’s mission to promote scholarly exploration, understanding, and celebration of the cultures, histories, and contributions of people of African descent, while fostering a sense of belonging and social justice. They also play a key role in building community and fostering a deeper understanding of the African diaspora and its impact on the world. _This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours._

     

    Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college and two years of professional experience in higher education is required. At least one year of this experience must be in the administration of operational processes or academic programming. A Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) from an accredited institution is preferred and may be substituted for the two years of required experience. Experience teaching African American Studies or Africana Studies and experience working in PK-12 districts is preferred. Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.

    In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is: $90,000 to $108,000. This position may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan and benefits for work life balance.
