The Medical Assistant III-Pathology Secretary/Transcriptionist is responsible for transcribing all surgical reports and autopsy reports from the Pathologists, assisting outpatients and clients, answering phones, computer order entry and registration, filing, specimen receiving, typing, faxing , copying and keeping the office space in lab and/or Pathology organized. The Med III staff work under the direction of the Pathologists and Lab Management.

Responsibilities

+ Transcribes and types all Pathology surgical, autopsy and miscellaneous reports

+ Answers phone and provides customer service for pathology and/or main lab offices

+ Sends copies of reports to providers and clients

+ Orders and registers laboratory specimens

+ Reviews lab orders for accuracy

+ Maintains records of slides/blocks sent for consultation

+ Other clerical duties as assigned

+ Maintains schedules of frozen sections and notifies pathologists of scheduled cases

+ Packages and sends specimen blocks and slides for consultation

+ Reviews incoming specimens for order accuracy

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ 6-12 months experience medical secretary experience

+ Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

+ Must be able to read, write and speak English

+ Must possess skilled computer basis and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser

Preferred:

+ Courses or degree in medical assisting or medical transcription
