    The mission of the Strategic Initiatives Bureau is to design and drive long term, enterprise-wide transformation by evaluating policies, programs, and resources to strive towards maximum organizational effectiveness. Strategic Initiatives serves as a primary advisor to the Police Commissioner regarding the Department' s short and long term strategic goals and examines new technologies and innovative solutions to help the Department fulfill its primary mission of keeping New York City safe. The Strategic Initiatives Bureau oversees the Office of Strategic Initiatives, the Office of Management, Analysis and Planning (OMAP), and the Project and Change Management Offices (PMO/CMO).

     

    The Internal Communications Unit (ICU) Lead will assist the Change Management Office (CMO) in supporting the Department by centralizing the Intake of internal communications and oversee the successful distribution to all Members of the Service (Uniformed and Civilian). ICU under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of CMO aims to strategically utilize all internal communication channels in order to facilitate the timely sharing of information of various categories, including, but not limited to critical messages, business operations, and engagement. In addition, ICU seeks to bring a critical and creative lens to current departmental practice as well as to innovate and improve communication procedures.

    The Internal Communications Unit Lead will:

    - Assist in managing day-to-day operations of the ICU while working under the guidance of the ICU Lieutenant and CO of CMO.

     

    - Ability to participate in and be a representative of the ICU in high-level/executive-level meetings.

     

    - Respond in a timely manner to all requested uses of internal communication channels by bureaus, offices, and units, which includes reviewing for necessary edits and communicating in a professional manner any feedback.

     

    - Create effective and precise written communication that can be relayed successfully and comprehensively understood by all levels of audiences (i.e., high-level Executives to front-line MOS).

     

    - Ensure that all requested internal publications meet standards of design excellence and adhere to department brand and guidelines.

     

    - Research and develop strategies for the improvement of current internal communication channels and/or create from entirely new types of internal communication channels to utilize.

     

    - Support the design, development, and delivery of internal communications plans in partnership with project leads.

     

    The Internal Communications Unit Specialist will directly report to the Internal Communications Unit Lieutenant.

    10 AM - 6 PM

    1 Police Plaza

    Qualifications

    1. A master's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, public health, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management, or in a related area; or

    2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in "1" above.

    3.An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in “1” above.

    4. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and seven years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in “1” above.

    5.A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, “3”, or “4” above. College education may be substituted for professional experience at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma and at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.

    Salary Min: $ 79,473.00
