This job administers REI’s multi-state Workers' Compensation programs including self-insurance, high deductible policies, and monopolistic state funds. It tracks and reports claims under coverage lines including but not limited to property, general liability, and automobile liability, and supports various internal safety, loss prevention, and insurance-related programs and processes. Responsibilities include claims monitoring and administration, creating reports and analysis to understand claims and claim trends, and communication with employees, claimants, managers, EHS personnel, insurance carriers and adjusters, state regulators, and both internal and outside counsel. The position contributes to REI’s success by actively managing a multi-million dollar claims portfolio. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
How you'll be successful:
+ Complete initial review of all reported liability incidents and workers’ compensation claims one business day of receipt, and report all liability incidents which constitute claims within three business days.
+ Complete contacts with employees, claimants, and TPA/adjusters within three business days of claim filing establish action plans and clarify expectations.
+ Work with TPA/adjusters and counsel when applicable to determine relevant information needed to move claim to resolution and proactively work with internal departments (i.e. managers, HR, EHS, Payroll) to gather and deliver this information
+ Using general logic and critical thinking skills, initiate or participate in investigations of claim circumstances.
+ Request and preserve photos, video footage of accidents, and police reports when such evidence is relevant to the claim investigation process.
+ Conduct regular check-ins on open claims, and assemble other internal stakeholders (i.e. Legal, managers, HR, EHS) for updates when necessary.
+ Administrate REI’s return-to-work policy by supporting field management in developing and offering modified work within established guidelines for workers’ compensation claims. Ensure accurate return-to-work information is timely conveyed to TPA/adjusters, including updates during life of claim.
+ Initiate and participate in regular reviews with external service providers and internal stakeholders to ensure proper action plans and claim resolution strategies are in place.
+ Review and approve or escalate reserve and settlement recommendations within Chart of Authority.
+ Regularly prepare concise summaries and recommendations for large workers’ compensation claims and severe or complex claims to Sr. Risk Manager and internal stakeholders.
+ Regularly review claim data and loss runs to identify claim trends and impacts, and relay to internal stakeholders.
+ Prepare and file mandatory state filings and reports for self-insured programs and monopolistic states.
+ Support REI’s integrated disability management program for workers’ compensation claims.
+ Functional knowledge of OSHA form 300, 300A and 301 recordkeeping and reporting requirements
+ Track OSHA reportable claims in accordance with recordkeeping requirements alongside EHS, and complete Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
+ Follow all applicable laws and administer programs in accordance with company policies and procedures.
+ Utilize multiple third-party administrator data systems and reporting tools.
+ Ensure national REI locations have the applicable support documentation to support compliance with REI and State workers’ compensation requirements.
+ Occasional travel to REI locations, claim reviews, and/or educational/training opportunities.

Your qualities:
+ General knowledge of Property, Workers’ Compensation, Business Auto, and General Liability claims processes required.
+ Three (3) or more years Workers’ Compensation claims adjusting or administration experience required.
+ Functional knowledge of Workers Compensation State legal statutes and procedures, including CA, AZ, NY, and PA, and monopolistic states OH and WA.
+ Bachelor’s degree preferred.
+ Associate in Claims (AIC) or similar professional designation of three years maintaining Claims Adjuster license.
+ General knowledge of ADA regulations and the interactive process for workplace accommodations.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to professionally communicate both verbally and in writing with employees and outside partners, recognizing and appropriately responding to others’ perspectives.
+ Strong active listening skills and the ability to communicate with empathy while understanding how to avoid statements that specifically admit liability.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel with ability to learn new systems (ex: RMIS or third party claims administrator sites)
+ Comfort with escalating complex issues and seeking clarification to fill in knowledge gaps.
+ Strong time management skills.

Pay Range
