    SUMMARY

    Responsible for the design of pattern tooling using both 2D drawing and 3D modeling methods

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    + Works in manner which demonstrates commitment to personal safety and that of others within the organization.

    + Design production tooling (patterns, core boxes, auxiliary tooling, etc.) for production facilities per standards and direction provided by management. Generate 3D solid model for geometry for such tooling as well as 2D drawing files.

    + Act as coordinator and leader for all assigned projects. Communicate as needed with Product Design, Pattern Engineering, Pattern Shop, and foundry personnel to obtain information necessary to design and produce accurate, high-quality tooling in as timely a manner as possible.

    + Perform research necessary to acquire additional information that may not be provided up front to complete assigned projects. This often includes reviewing existing tooling and requesting CMM layout work.

    + Issue manufacturing orders (MOs) for East Jordan & Ardmore pattern shops, detailing all work required with regards to new and/or reworked tooling requests via NPRs, FTRs, ECRs, and other sources.

    + Request purchase requisitions for materials required to build tooling in house, as well as for tooling work outsourced to various pattern shops and vendors.

    + Obtain tooling quotes from vendors for tooling work that will be outsourced to various pattern shops and vendors. This often requires verbal communications with vendors to convey information and/or answer questions.

    + Maintain existing Autocad and Solidworks part and drawing file system.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

     

    Associate degree (A.S. or A.A.S) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school related to Manufacturing or Tool Design. Six months to one-year related experience/training preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret work related documents. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to effectively communicate complex circumstances in a concise manner.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as scales, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, diameters, mass, density and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to demonstrate an understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or design form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized and unique situations.

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Internet navigation, email and ability to learn department specific software programs.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Employees will be integrated to the Pattern Shop work environment and encounter exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and heat. In this environment the employee could be exposed to high places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. Noise levels in the Pattern Shop work environment are moderate to occasionally loud.
