Job Summary and Qualifications
The Lead Patient Care Technician (Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) Lead) plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care by supporting both the direct observation of high-risk patients and the coordination of PSA team functions. The PCT-PSA Lead provides continuous safety monitoring when needed, ensures team coverage during breaks and meals, reviews documentation for completeness and accuracy, and serves as a resource and role model for other PSAs. This position promotes safety, accountability, and communication within the team and across departments.
What You Will Do in This Role:
+ **Patient Observation & Safety**
+ Provides direct observation of high-risk patients when needed, ensuring a safe environment and preventing falls, self-harm, or elopement.
+ Maintains a direct line of sight with patients at all times and follows safety protocols during patient transport, testing, and procedures.
+ Assists in room assessments and environmental safety checks throughout the shift.
+ Follows fall prevention and infection control protocols diligently.
+ **Team Support & Coordination**
+ Assists with coordinating PSA coverage and provides timely relief for staff breaks and lunches.
+ Ensures appropriate patient assignment hand-offs during coverage transitions.
+ Acts as a point of contact for the PSA team and supports the unit supervisor with real-time updates regarding staffing and workflow needs.
+ **Documentation & Compliance**
+ Reviews and evaluates PSA documentation for completeness, clarity, and compliance with protocols.
+ Ensures that all observation logs and safety records are properly maintained and escalates discrepancies as appropriate.
+ **Mentorship & Leadership**
+ Serves as a peer leader and resource for PSAs by modeling best practices in observation, documentation, and patient interaction.
+ Assists in onboarding, mentoring, and orienting new PSAs to departmental expectations and safety procedures.
+ Communicates updates in processes, procedures, and equipment use to the PSA team as directed by the supervisor.
+ **Support Duties**
+ Assists with basic patient care and activities of daily living (ADLs) when not assigned to direct observation.
+ Transports patients, delivers equipment and supplies, assists with meal trays, and restocks patient rooms as needed.
+ Positively promotes the health care team to patients, families, and visitors, contributing to a supportive and respectful care environment
What Qualifications You Will Need:
+ **Required:**
+ Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) – Must be obtained within 7 days of hire
+ Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) – Must be obtained within 90 days of hire
+ Minimum 3 years of experience in a patient care, PSA, or PCT role
+ Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide peers
