    Position Compensation Range: $32.62 - $52.19 Hourly

     

    The Maternal Fetal Medicine department at UVA is seeking an experienced Perinatal Sonographer to join our team. The Perinatal Sonographer is responsible for performing obstetrical ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position works under limited supervision, independently performing ultrasonographic procedures. Procedures performed require independent judgement, initiative, and ingenuity. Experience in performing detailed fetal anatomy, growth assessments, biophysical profiles, Doppler studies, multiple gestation imaging, procedure support, and presenting findings to Maternal Fetal Medicine providers, all in a collaborative environment that prioritizes both learning and patient care.

    The Perinatal Sonographer will be responsible for performing low and high-risk perinatal obstetric (OB) ultrasound examinations in accordance with established departmental guidelines and protocols. The Perinatal Sonographer needs have expertise in prenatal diagnosis and OB ultrasound with the ability to recognize normal and pathological conditions and apply additional modalities as indicated (i.e. Doppler, 3D/4D). Assisting with the following OB procedures: chorionic villus sampling (CVS), Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling (PUBS), and amniocentesis

     

    Additionally, the Perinatal Sonographer will obtain relevant history via EMR, image according to protocol, review cases with the care team, and generate preliminary reports using structured reporting software.

     

    + Performs appropriate ultrasound procedures and records anatomical pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.

    + Assists the physician in gathering sonographic data necessary to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases.

    + Obtains reviews and integrates pertinent patient medical history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.

    + Provides patient education related to medical ultrasound.

    + Records and processes sonographic data.

    + Provides patient services in a variety of medical settings.

    + Performs quality assurance checks on equipment ensuring proper safety standards are met.

    + In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

     

    Position Compensation Range: $32.62 - $52.19 Hourly

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program

     

    Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in OB/GYN

     

    Minimum 2 years of recent experience (within the last 3 years) in Ob/Gyn Sonography.

     

    Experience with the following OB procedures preferred but not required: chorionic villus sampling (CVS), Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling (PUBS), and amniocentesis

     

    BLS at time of hire.

     

    Proficiency in identifying fetal abnormalities and their diagnosis, as well as knowledge of fetal anatomy and the ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal structures.

     

    Effective communication and interpersonal skills, allowing for seamless collaboration with physicians, patients, and other staff members.

     

    Strong computer skills and proficiency with ultrasound software programs.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and traveling, driving (occasionally for outreach clinics); reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: Manipulation of ultrasound transducer. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 100lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids, and disease.
