Here’s a Glimpse of the Job
We are seeking a meticulous and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Library Specialist II. This is a non-public facing position ideal for someone who thrives in an independent work environment and has a keen eye for detail. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the cataloging operations of Evans Library and Cushing Memorial Library and Archives by performing routine copy cataloging of monographs and serials, maintaining bibliographic records, and contributing to catalog maintenance projects.
This role involves working with a variety of library materials, including collections that may contain sexually explicit content. Candidates must be comfortable handling and cataloging such materials in a professional and respectful manner. Responsibilities include interpreting and verifying bibliographic records, performing cataloging maintenance, and participating in special projects to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the library’s cataloging system.

Opportunities to Contribute:
+ Performs standard and routine copy cataloging in the Libraries’ online cataloging system. (Some collections may contain content graphic in nature.)
+ Updates added copies; searches, interprets and verifies bibliographical records in OCLC and the Libraries online cataloging system.
+ Transfers records from OCLC to the Libraries’ online cataloging system.
+ Assigns correct Cutter numbers to base call numbers and assigns easy subject headings.
+ Reviews and corrects bibliographical records, including making note of unique features of Cushing material.
+ Creates short records in the Libraries’ online cataloging system.
+ Participates in special maintenance projects to identify, correct, update and or delete unnecessary or erroneous bibliographic, holdings or item records from the Libraries’ online cataloging system.
+ Refers complex problems to the appropriate staff or to the Coordinator of Adaptive Cataloging & Resource Management. Examples of projects include, but are not limited to, correcting records for selected items that will be sent to remote storage, where processing cannot be automated.
+ Attends and participates in departmental and interdepartmental meetings, committees, task forces, etc.
Salary: $17.25 an hour
Hours/Location: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in College Station, Texas.
Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
+ Three years of related library experience. 30 or more higher education credit hours may substitute for one year of library experience.
+ Ability to lift or move medium weight boxes, books or similar items, push a heavy book truck.
+ Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.
Preferred Qualifications
+ One year as TAMU experience as a Library Specialist I.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
+ General knowledge of library services and functions.
+ Knowledge of email, word processing spreadsheets and library online research database searches and/or processing.
+ Good interpersonal skills.
+ Reliable attendance.
+ Excellent communication and customer service skills.
+ Ability to work in a team environment.
+ Attention to details.
