    Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

    Department Description:

    FSRMC Laboratory is a high volume lab with a family feel. FSRMC performs >2 million tests per year. Being a part of a large health system and being the primary reference lab for our system of 9 hospitals you will have the ability to see a wide array of patient and specimen types that can be challenging and exciting at the same time. Aside from the everyday tests that most labs perform we are also capable of performing mycology, antibody investigations in blood bank, infectious disease testing and many special chemistry tests.

     

    We have state of the art instruments that include the Ortho Vision, Beckman Cellavision, Roche Cobas Pros, Beckman DXH 900s, Vitek 2, Cepied GenXpert, Beckman Iris, Stago Compact Maxs and many others. Our patient population includes complex cancer patients, high risk OB/GYN patients, infectious disease patients and open heart patients. We also have the privilege of being a part of a Primary Stroke Center which allows us to play an integral role in helping save precious brain function of stroke victims.

    Position Summary:

    Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the technical functions within the laboratory. Ensures that services are of the best quality, cost-contained, and carried out in an expeditious manner. Provides oversight for daily laboratory operations. Responsible for the oversight of the functions of the Technical Supervisor as defined by the CLIA.

    Responsibilities

    + Provides a communication link between Directors and staff.

    + Directs the evaluation and implementation of new tests.

    + Prepares and reviews, in conjunction with Directors, technical job descriptions, individual and team performance appraisals.

    + Coaches and empower staff and departmental teams.

    + Monitors the performance and results of Proficiency Test surveys and assures that discrepancies are reconciled.

    + Reviews/reconciles all departmental reports to assure appropriate utilization of resources.

    + Assures policy and procedure initiation, review and update, coordinating with Laboratory Technical Specialists.

    + Oversees reference laboratory processes, including specimen transport, logging, resulting, and invoicing.

    + Oversees decentralized testing in coordination with appropriate Technical Specialist.

    + Facilitates incident report/problem resolution.

    + Ensures staff development in coordination with Directors (orientation, competency testing).

    + Provides input into the development of departmental goals and objectives in conjunction with Directors.

    + Interviews and selects employees in coordination with Directors.

    + Oversees monitoring of quality control, assuring that corrective action is taken and documented when required.

    + Facilitates problem resolution regarding payroll and scheduling.

    + Provides timely communication to staff, including frequent scheduled staff meetings.

    + Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

    + Perform other related duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:

    Bachelor's degree in medical technology, or chemical, physical, or biological science.

    Minimum Experience:

    Four (4) years training/experience in high complexity testing in one or more of the laboratory specialties (meets Technical Supervisor Qualifications as defined by CLIA), with two (2) years managerial/supervisory experience.

    Licensure Requirement:

    License as medical technologist and General Supervisor by the State of Tennessee required.
