Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our client's team on a long-term contract basis in north Orange County. In this role, you will contribute to financial operations by managing reconciliations, preparing journal entries, and ensuring compliance with government grant requirements. This position offers the opportunity to work within the local government sector and support critical financial reporting activities.

Responsibilities:

• Perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards.

• Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries to support financial reporting processes.

• Analyze and manage government grants, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to regulations.

• Assist in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Audit Report to meet audit requirements.

• Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.

• Support month-end close activities, including balance sheet account reconciliations.

• Collaborate with other departments to resolve discrepancies and streamline financial operations.

• Provide detailed financial analysis to support decision-making and reporting.

• Ensure compliance with accounting principles and local government regulations.

Requirements • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably within the government sector.

• Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledger accounts.

• Strong knowledge of balance sheet account reconciliations and month-end close processes.

• Familiarity with managing and analyzing government grants.

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.

• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and external stakeholders.

• Experience with financial reporting and compliance standards.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
