Salary Grade NC11 Salary Range $43,738.00 - $76,542.00
Serves as the Lead Technician with inspection, installation, repair & maintenance of electrical & electronic control and power components associated with moveable span bridges , including 3-phase standby generators with output voltages of 120/208vac through 277/480vac, automatic transfer equipment and utility power company distribution systems, communication systems, electronically controlled elevators, fire alarm systems, low voltage DC controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCS), 120/240 volts AC controls, and variable speed motor drives. Inspection, installation, repair & maintenance of conventional & solar powered navigational lighting, roadway lighting on bridges. Work requires the ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic control diagrams & equipment manuals. Work is performed in an assigned area & statewide. Expected to be on call 24/7. Preference will be given to applicants with North Carolina Electrical Contractor’s License. Moveable bridge experience preferred. The primary base of operations for this position is in Leland, although work will be required statewide.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Management prefers applicants with the following:
+ Experience in troubleshooting electrical system problems and/or movable bridge problems.
+ Experience reading and understanding electrical schematic drawings/wiring diagrams and using standard electrical testing equipment.
+ Knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical and electronic traffic control systems
+ Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal technical supervision
+ Experience in applying the principles in the MUTCD, NC DOT Standard Specifications, NC DOT Roadway Drawings and/or the National Electric Code especially pertaining to moveable bridge and navigation/roadway lighting.
Additional Expectations:
This position functions as a lead bridge control technician in the emergency response and repair of electrical and electronics portions of moveable span bridges and fixed span bridges over navigable waters. This position requires the ability to work in confined spaces, climb bridge structures, work from both aerial & under-bridge equipment, and the ability to navigate and work from a boat. Considerable knowledge of the National Electrical Code, AASHTO and Federal Regulations pertaining to moveable bridges and fixed bridge navigational lighting. Considerable knowledge of modern electrical materials and equipment with ability to review plans and materials. Ability to diagnose electrical system failures and initiate repairs, direct, plan and supervise the installation of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment and establish expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
