The department of Health Information Management has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Inpatient Coder to work at the UHealth campus. The Inpatient Coder (U) reviews inpatient medical records to accurately assign and sequence procedural codes for use in reimbursement and data collection.
+ Verifies patient information to identify any discrepancies.
+ Monitors scanning to ensure documents are scanned effectively and promptly reports any issues to management.
+ Works with physicians to ensure proper diagnosis, symptom or reason for service is listed to safeguard the department’s ability to obtain adequate reimbursement for care provided.
+ Converts clinical information into applicable codes.
+ Understands and complies with all relevant laws and regulations in regard to the handling of medical records.
+ Reports unusual circumstances and any information on risk factors to management.
+ Maintains current knowledge of coding and medical records practices and regulations.
+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Minimum Qualifications
+ High School diploma or equivalent
+ Certified Coding Specialist
+ Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

+ Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
+ Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
