Do you have an interest in state and federal nondiscrimination laws? Do you have exceptional investigatory skills and a desire to put your abilities to work? If so, then you may be interested in the Human Rights Investigator position in the Employment Standards Division. As a Human Rights Investigator, you will: * Conduct informal investigations into complaints of discrimination. * Analyze evidence and apply state and federal nondiscrimination laws. * Write reports to support the Bureau's recommendation based on findings. * Work with parties to resolve claims. * Conduct intake interviews & draft necessary filing documents. * Provide education and outreach to prevent discrimination *KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities: Knowledge of (or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time): * State and federal discrimination laws. * Administrative Rules of Montana. * Agency's administrative procedures. Skill in: * Methods of informal investigation including drafting requests for information, conducting interviews and other methods of research. * Interpersonal communication. * Collaboration and direction. Ability to: * Convey complex information in a meaningful manner verbally and in writing. * Manage time a high caseload. * Think critically for the purpose of issue spotting. * Work with highly emotional and challenging people. * Adapt and be versatile due to discovery of unforeseen facts during an investigation as well as changes in law and protocol. *PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS* As an Investigator you will sit for long periods, and the majority of your time is spent keyboarding and on the phone. Most investigators work a 40-hour workweek, but occasionally irregular hours are necessary. There are strict deadlines. Travel is involved in some cases *MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS* Candidates with a strong mix of the attributes listed in the above Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) are desired. Candidates may demonstrate competency in the KSAs through experience, formal education (including certificates, credentials, or degree-based programs), or a combination of both. Candidates may demonstrate competency in the KSAs through at least 6 years of experience, formal education (including certificates, credentials, or degree-based programs), or a combination of the two.
