Posting Summary
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Student Affairs ( VPSA ), the Associate Dean of Student Affairs will provide executive-level strategic insight and analysis in support of the VPSA . As a proxy for the VPSA , play a pivotal part in steering the enterprise of the Division of Student Affairs ( DOSA ) and its impact on the University of Vermont ( UVM ) community.
The Associate Dean will direct and represent DOSA in areas such as general administration, strategic planning, project management, and information dissemination. They will advance UVM’s strategic goals by collaborating closely with DOSA leadership, internal and external partners, and institutional leaders to enhance operational efficiency and ensure that the division’s initiatives reflect UVM’s priorities.
Serving as a mentor and leader, guide a team focused on advancing initiatives and other critical projects, including the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator, the Director of Business Operations, the Communications & Projects Lead, the Director of the Center for Student Conduct ( CSC ), the Director of the Office of Student and Community Relations ( OSCR ), and the Assistant Dean of Students. Lead the production of high-level communications intended for audiences that include executive leadership, Board of Trustees, university administrators, faculty and staff. Ensure the seamless continuity of day-to-day operations for the VPSA and champion initiatives that prioritize the success and well-being of UVM students.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
+ Bachelor’s degree in business administration, journalism, English, public relations or other relevant field and 10 years of relevant experience in an educational environment of which must encompass minimum 5 years’ experience supervising personnel and progressively responsible leadership experience
+ Demonstrate experience effectively working with senior leadership, faculty, staff, students and families
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required
+ Ability to think critically, plan effectively, and problem solve
+ Ability to apply judgment effectively in prioritizing multiple projects/tasks that may be time-sensitive and/or highly confidential
Desirable Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in Public Administration, Higher Education Administration, or other relevant discipline
+ Project management experience
+ Experience managing large budgets
+ Experience with change management
+ Experience with complex personnel issues
Anticipated Pay Range $125,000-$140,000
Other Information
Special Conditions A probationary period may be required, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), Background Check required for this position
