    Medical Assistant – Heart Valve Clinic - (Full-Time/Days)

    Work location: Texas Health Dallas, 8200 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75231

     

    Work hours: Full Time Days (8:00am – 4:30pm) Five 8-hour day shifts per week for 40 hours/week

    Here’s What You Need:

    + High School Diploma or equivalent required.

    + Phlebotomy experience preferred.

    + MA - Medical Assistant certified or registered Upon Hire Required

    + CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Req

    + One Year in a medical office Required

    + Registration experience preferred

    + Scheduling experience

    + Administrative skills

    + Positive interpersonal skills and ability to function in a fast-paced environment. Phlebotomy skills, minor lab test experience, familiar with medical terminology.

    Skills

    + Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.

    + Interest in community and unhoused populations.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.

    + Thorough knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.

    + Demonstrated sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.

    + Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.

    + Good computer skills using a medical management application.

    + Possesses a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism

     

    What You Will Do

    Care of Patient/Technical Skills:

    + Assists with flow of patients from waiting area to exam room, including height, weight, and head circumference

    + Obtain brief history from patients

    + Perform preparatory work on patients to ensure efficient use of the provider’s time

    + Draws blood and gives injections

    + Prepares specimens and orders lab work, interfaces with laboratory ensuring that all labs are reported in timely fashion

    + Maintains immunization documents

    + Records lab tests in logs

    + Stocks and cleans exam rooms daily

    + Facilitates disposal of biohazard materials

    Workplace/Personal Accountability:

    + Maintains and enhances patient care/technical skills

    + Seeks assistance and supervision when performing unfamiliar tasks

    + Provides for patient safety

    + Communicates per department expectations.

    + Recognizes and communicates patient care concerns through established channels.

    + Complies with THR Human Resources Policies (ex. Attendance Punctuality, ID badge, Dress Code).

    + Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk

    + Accepts other duties as assigned.

    + Organized work in partnership with team members. Participates in department/THR community outreach activities.

    Partnership/Teamwork:

    + Adapts to changing needs of unit: patient census, workload, and crisis situations

    + Functions as preceptor for new employees (if selected by Manager)

    + Demonstrates interpersonal relationship skills with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, all disciplines and other customers.

    + Flexes schedule to meet department/patient needs.

    + Adapts to changes in workload assignments to meet changing needs of the individual patient or the unit.

    + Accepts other duties, as assigned.

    + Organized work in partnership with team members. Participates in department/THR community outreach activities.

    Front Office/Admission Specialist/Scheduling:

    + Enter patient information to ensure correct medical record and billing process flow efficiently.

    + Ensure proper consents are signed and remain compliant with proper documentation with regards to history of account.

    + Maintain a thorough understanding and possess the ability to clearly explain all forms used in the registration process.

    + Consistently enter notes documenting receipt of payment or attempt to collect payment.

    + Search the EAD for a patient’s medical record number before creating an account.

    + Uses two patient’s Identifiers to correctly identify the correct patients

    + Documents in comments or notes information necessary for communication to departments.

    + Assist with answering phone messages and follow up.

    + Notifies referring physician’s office of conflicts or issues when necessary.

    + Completes medical necessity checking on all appointments as required by policy and procedures.

    Insurance Verification Specialist:

    + Responsible for pre-certification/authorization and insurance verification for all patients.

    + Research, follow up and resolve open & pending authorizations in a timely manner

    + Calculate cash estimates for patients on upcoming visits/ procedures.

    + Contact patients regarding financial obligations.

    + Obtain prior authorization for procedures.

    + Scanning medical documents into patient accounts.
