Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Assistant Parks & Recreation Director in our Parks & Recreation Department. The Assistant Parks & Recreation Director assists the Department Director with the leadership and oversight of the department. The position is responsible for the management of functions and budget associated with assigned division(s) and for the supervision of professional, technical, and administrative support staff assigned to the division. The position assists in organizing, planning, directing, managing, and evaluating the functions of major initiatives and lines of service within the Parks & Recreation Department, which currently includes, but is not limited to, park operations, recreation programs, community special events, aquatics, back office administrative support functions, park rangers, performance management, and parks & facility related capital and operating budget development.
The Assistant Director performs highly responsible, complex managerial support, executive-level assistance, and policy analysis to the department director on operational and departmental issues, long-range plans, and programs.
The position performs administrative work involved in leading, planning, organizing, maintaining, and directing activities and projects of the department. The Assistant Director responds to requests from internal and external customers and provides any additional support the Parks and Recreation Director needs.

About You

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Public Administration, or a related field; Master's degree in Public Administration or Business Management is preferred
+ 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in parks, recreation, and facilities management
+ 5+ years supervisory experience of professional and/or other levels of staff; or
+ Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job duties as those listed above.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
+ Certified Parks & Recreation Professional Preferred
+ Valid Arizona Driver's License.
