    Microsoft’s Windows Servicing & Delivery (WSD) organization is on a mission to keep billions of Windows devices protected and productive by delivering a seamless and timely servicing experience. The Update Publishing Service (UPS) team owns the pipeline that powers the delivery of Windows updates to over a billion devices worldwide.

     

    As part of the team, you’ll play a key role in securing our customers while maintaining a healthy continuous delivery experience that makes users love Windows. We’re looking for a software engineer with a passion for building world-class systems that power the update publishing pipeline.

     

    As a ** Software Engineer II** on the UPS team, you will work on a production-grade, Azure-native pipeline built using technologies such as Service Fabric, Logic Apps, Durable Tasks, Azure Functions, Cosmos DB, and Azure Storage. This infrastructure enables intelligent, secure, and scalable delivery of Windows updates and apps. You’ll contribute to systems aligned with Secure Future Initiative (SFI) principles, supporting ML-driven targeting, AI agent orchestration, and integration with MCP for automated rollout management.

    Responsibilities

    + You will be designing and implementing new features to support customer requirements as well as continuously improving the quality and reliability of the update publishing service pipeline.

    + You will work with other teams across WSD and Windows to design and build features that enable the most efficient and seamless way to deliver updates to bring to market the latest in innovation including ML/AI models, Applications, and security updates. As we look toward a new future with Agentic AI and AI Orchestration, we will be looking for you to bring new thinking and ideas as we move forward.

    + You will design, test and develop these features based on internal and external customer requirements leveraging a fast-paced quarterly planning cycle. Lots of opportunity to have organizational impact by collaborating, innovating and building the next set of internal processes and tools to support fast yet reliable shipping of new code to our validation rings and retail customers.

    + Address security vulnerabilities and at the same time build resilient architecture for your components in today's ever increasing security focused landscape.

    + Monitor retail and CD releases to Windows and diagnose/mitigate/resolve issues expeditiously when they happen.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + 2+ years of experience with .NET and RESTful API development.

    + 2+ years of experience building or maintaining services using Azure-native technologies.

    Other Requirements** **:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

     

    + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

    + Understanding of microservices, event-driven architecture, and asynchronous workflows.

    + Experience with telemetry, observability (e.g., App Insights), and live site operations.

    + Experience with technical abilities around design, coding, rapid prototyping, debugging, and problem solving.

    + Recent exposure and implementation of products and services leveraging the latest generative AI models and agents.

    + Contributing to team culture.

    + Track record of learning and growing.

     

    Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
