    Summary This position is located in the Division of Quality Management at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The primary purpose of this position is serving as Quality Performance Improvement Coordinator for Gallup Service Unit. Collaborates with all departments of the service unit to maintain standards of patient care and provides consultation and guidance to the healthcare teams related to performance improvement. Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Registered Nurse Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Assesses the quality of care to assure that the services are effective and in compliance with hospital, agency and the Joint Commission standards of practice. Advises and interprets new procedures, practices and requirements to meet Joint Commission and/or agency standards. Participates in the development of policies and procedures. Initiates and coordinates investigation of patient care issues, possible Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) violations. Formulates and implements effective hospital self-assessment program and plans to comply with different accreditation requirements and is consistent with the priorities and objectives of the Service Unit and Indian Health Service. Serves on Quality Management Committee, makes presentations to the Service Unit Executive Leadership Team and other committees as requested. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Direct working experience and applied Knowledge of Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) and/or Risk Management (RM) projects related to patient care, leading and taking on tasks that help achieve project goals; gathering and analyzing data, and preparing reports following the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) process and Root Cause Analysis (RCA); and thorough working knowledge of accreditation standards, specifically Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and CMS conditions of participation. Thorough knowledge of all aspects of management activities including qualitative and quantitative analysis, facility statistics and other policies that relate to PQI, Risk Management, Compliance, and patient grievances. Active engagement in leading the process of performance improvement and risk management/corporate compliance and patient grievances. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized.
