Nurse Responsibilities
+ Perform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors
+ Carry out other assigned responsibilities as needed
Relationship Building & Communication
+ Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with:
+ Executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers
+ Ancillary and support staff, other departments
+ Patients and families
+ Demonstrate effective communication skills that promote collaboration and patient understanding
+ Translate patient condition to other care providers and recommend changes to care plans or practices
+ Maintain open dialogue, encourage feedback, and foster continuous learning among team members
+ Communicate workplace safety hazards to peers and management
Clinical Judgment & Critical Thinking
+ Exercise sound clinical judgment with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
+ Apply critical thinking in all aspects of patient care, including leading others in the nursing process
+ Demonstrate ability to identify and respond to clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual needs
Patient Care & Support
+ Assist physician in all aspects of patient care, including assessment, evaluation, and education
+ Formulate holistic goals and care plans that treat the patient as a partner in care
+ Triage patient situations and coordinate care effectively
+ Provide appropriate and thorough documentation to enhance communication between caregivers
+ Create a healing and compassionate experience for patients and families
Education & Teaching
+ Apply knowledge of adult learning principles (and child teaching methods, if applicable)
+ Deliver effective education to patients and families for navigating care episodes
+ Support development of students, new staff, and colleagues through mentorship and training
Quality Improvement & Professional Development
+ Actively participate in department- or practice-specific quality improvement efforts
+ Identify and share opportunities for improvement with colleagues and management
+ Utilize evidence-based research to advance clinical care
+ Maintain accountability for ongoing professional growth and enhancing quality of practice
+ Participate in practice-based governance, goal setting, and transition/change efforts

Physical & Technical Skills
+ Maintain mobility, visual and manual dexterity

+ Effectively manage complex environments and specialized equipment
Required Licenses and Certifications
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) _or_ Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Registered Nurse (RN) _or_ Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
Additional Notes and Requirements
+ UPMC-approved national certification is preferred
+ Must hold current RN licensure in:
+ The state where the facility is located, _or_
+ A state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the facility's state
+ CPR must meet AHA standards, including:
+ A didactic component
+ A skills demonstration component
+ Completed within 30 days of hire
+ Graduate Nurses (GNs) must:
+ Take the licensure exam within 6 months of hire _or_ within one year of graduation, whichever comes first
+ Note: TPPs are valid for one year from graduation, not from issue date
+ GNs who do not meet this timeline may be terminated or demoted from the GN position at the discretion of the Business Unit (BU)
