    Job Description

    This specialist functions as a Quality Control and Oversight Specialist within the Scientific Section, Division, Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA). The specialist provides review of all incoming licensing applications for Safety Compliance Facilities (SCF) needing pre-licensure inspections in Michigan. Additionally provides specialist policy advice related to SCF operational requirements, accreditation standards for SCFs, and any relevant topics from the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA), Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA), Marihuana Tracking Act (MTA), and administrative rules. Develops, implements, and oversees a SCF proficiency testing program. Is a specialist Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and CRA point of contact with industry and other government agencies regarding all matters related to SCFs. Conducts in-depth, on-site, inspections, and investigations related to SCFs of their assigned facilities. Conduct field investigations, investigative conferences, and interviews with involved parties and potential witnesses. Produces written investigative reports, containing all pertinent information using the CRA’s approved format and identify potential violations of the MMFLA, MRTMA, MTA, and/or administrative rules. Makes recommendations for closure, enforcement action, or specialist review, if warranted. Serves cease and desist orders or department issued sanctions to SCFs per CRA direction.

    Required Education and Experience

    Education

    Possession of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, or a related pure or applied field.

    Experience

    Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist, including two years equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist P11 or one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 12.

    Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand 13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

     

    Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

     

    Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
