    Job Summary

    The Police Officer Supervisor/Expert provides leadership and operational oversight to a team of law enforcement officers, ensuring compliance with Arkansas state laws, departmental policies, and public safety objectives. This role is responsible for supervising patrol activities, investigations, and enforcement operations, as well as developing officers through training, mentorship, and performance management.

    Primary Responsibilities

    The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency's operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts. Oversee and coordinate daily activities of assigned police officers, ensuring adherence to laws and department policies. Provide guidance, coaching, and performance evaluations to officers to enhance effectiveness and professional growth. Conduct roll calls, briefings, and training sessions to communicate updates, assignments, and best practices. Lead officers in field operations, emergency response, and high-risk situations, ensuring proper protocols are followed. Investigate officer conduct, use-of-force incidents, and citizen complaints, implementing corrective actions when necessary. Supervise patrol assignments, traffic enforcement, and criminal investigations within the jurisdiction. Ensure proper documentation, case management, and evidence handling in accordance with legal standards. Respond to emergency calls, critical incidents, and public disturbances, directing tactical responses as needed. Assist officers in arrests, searches, and interviews, ensuring adherence to constitutional and procedural requirements. Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies and first responders during joint operations and crisis situations. Represent the agency at public meetings, events, and law enforcement forums to promote transparency and trust. Ensure officer compliance with state laws, departmental policies, and ethical standards. Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for patrol, investigations, and emergency response. Monitor and report on crime trends, officer performance, and operational challenges to command staff.

     

    Knowledge and Skills

     

    Strong team leadership, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and in high-risk situations. Skilled in delegating tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring accountability. Deep knowledge of Arkansas state laws, law enforcement procedures, and criminal justice operations. Proficiency in criminal investigations, report writing, and evidence collection. Ability to analyze crime trends and implement effective policing strategies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with officers, community members, and public officials. Ability to conduct public presentations, de-escalate conflicts, and resolve complaints professionally. Ability to assess high-pressure situations, make quick decisions, and implement tactical responses. Skilled in risk assessment, emergency response, and crowd control. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex law enforcement challenges.

    Minimum Qualifications

    At least three years of experience in law enforcement, including at least one year in a leadership capacity.

     

    Licensure/Certifications

     

    Must be Certified Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Arkansas. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
