Job Summary
The Biomedical Research Core Facilities Advanced Genomics Core is looking for a skilled research staff member to join us full time as a Research Laboratory Specialist. The incumbent will assist in developing, deploying and executing protocols to improve spatial transcriptomics operations in the Advanced Genomics Core.

Responsibilities*
Perform spatialomics experiments using animal and human tissue on the 10x Genomics Visium and Xenium platforms, expanding to additional related platforms in the future. Responsibilities include sectioning, staining, and imaging frozen or fixed tissue, antibody optimization, assay processing, and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
Under direction of Single Cell and Spatial lab manager, optimize existing protocols to improve data quality, identify platform weaknesses and potential problems, and troubleshoot solutions for existing spatialomics workflows within the Advanced Genomics Core. Research and evaluate new spatial technologies, provide recommendations to core leadership regarding adopting new platforms, onboard new ancillary equipment, and assist in establishing novel workflows when implementing new spatialomics assays.
Work with the Single Cell and Spatial Project Manager and spatialomics customers to plan and execute experiments. Assist in educating users regarding technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations, and outcomes. Document client requests, communicate sample quality, assay parameters, and sample performance.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or related biomedical field and 4 to 5 years of research experience with histology, cell or tissue microscopy, fluorescent and stained section imaging, plus basic molecular biology skills. A successful candidate must be able to analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Proficiency and comfort with computer-based operation is a requirement of the position, including typical office software (MSWord, MS Excel). Must be meticulous both at the lab bench and with recordkeeping skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a diverse environment while under pressure to produce results in a timely manner is a must.
Desired Qualifications*
Prior experience in a paid position working with single cell and spatial transcriptomics.
