    About the Park School

     

    The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA, dedicated to excellence in education.     The Instructional Coach for Literacy (Prek-4)  is a member of the school’s lower division and reports to the lower division head. This full-time, 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to support the school’s mission and curricular goals.

    Responsibilities

    + Work closely with the Assistant Head for Curriculum and Instruction and the LD Head to keep them updated on ongoing curriculum work in literacy within the division.

    + In collaboration with the Assistant Head for Curriculum and Instruction, the Lower Division Head, and the Literacy Team, oversee Pre-K - Grade 4 literacy assessment procedures, training, and data collection.

    + Provide individualized partner-based, classroom coaching support to individual PreK - Grade 4 teachers in all areas of literacy:

    + Model best practice lessons in the classroom,

    + Observe teaching and learning, followed by reflective feedback conversations, and

    + Facilitate teacher reflection, goal setting, and action planning for both student outcomes and teacher growth.

    + Collect, share, and collaboratively analyze classroom data with teachers to inform instructional decisions.

    + Provide small group instruction in Pre K-4 grade classrooms as part of tier 2 support

    + Partner with Assistant Head for Curriculum and Instruction and Division Head to determine and build engaging and essential professional development based on the curriculum and instructional needs of teachers:

    + Introduce new ideas and current research on best teaching practices, as well as develop discipline-specific knowledge in teachers

    + Contribute to cross-divisional conversations, ensuring best literacy practices.

    + Serve on the Pre-K - Grade VIII program review committee in a review year.

    + Participate fully in ongoing professional development.

    + Attend Child Study meetings once a week.

    + Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred in Literacy

    + Minimum of 5 years teaching experience at the elementary level

    + Demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse community

    + Depth of understanding in all aspects of literacy development, research-based practices and current trends in elementary literacy education, with a focus on student development in Grades Pre-K - 4

    + Creativity and innovation in curriculum and instruction, with a large repertoire of learning strategies and teaching methods that support differentiated instruction and student-centered learning

    + Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills

    + Demonstrated success with faculty support and facilitating professional growth (i.e., as a coach, mentor, teacher leader, etc.)

    + Experience implementing multisensory instructional methods to accelerate literacy achievement

    + Experience using a variety of assessment tools and data to inform instruction

    + Demonstrated strength in phonics education, preferably with the Wilson “Fundations” Program

    + Outstanding organizational and interpersonal (communication, problem-solving, conflict management, collaboration) skills

    + Ability to think independently and collaborate  in a team environment

    + Skill in differentiating instruction

    + ​​High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

    + Maintain focus and adaptability  in an energetic and, at times, loud environment

    + Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflicts with students and families in a timely manner.

    + The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)

    + Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross and Atlas etc.

    Physical Requirements:

    + The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time.

    + The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).

    + The ability to lead, supervise, and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.

    + The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students.

    + The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.

    + The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.

    + The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs.

    + The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.

    + The compensation range for this role is based on a faculty scale ranging from $65,140 to $134,680  annually. Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees received, years of teaching experience,  and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive compensation details, inclusive of any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
