Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Assistant Treasurer, the Senior Director of Planning, Analytics, and Risk Management serves as a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the University’s core financial functions, including financial planning, modeling and forecasting, treasury operations, cash management, and enterprise risk management.
The Senior Director partners closely with departments across Fordham University to support data-informed decision making, ensure alignment with institutional goals and maintain long-term financial sustainability. The Senior Director plays a critical role in monitoring budget performance, forecasting outcomes, maintaining adequate cash reserves to support solvency and proactively adjusting financial strategies to promote financial health and operational continuity.
Essential Functions:
Mission Achievement with Financial Sustainability
Partners consultatively with school and departmental leadership, works to ensure financial resources are strategically allocated to high-priority activities and evaluates opportunities for innovation and growth based on their potential to advance the mission and create sustainable value, aligning with both University goals and financial capacity.
Develops and implements financial strategies to directly support the University’s academic mission through targeted investments in areas such as faculty recruitment, student success programs, and research initiatives.
Decision Modeling and Financial Planning
Develops sophisticated financial models that inform strategic decisions, integrating academic, operational, and financial considerations to prioritize investments that drive mission success and financial sustainability.
Leads scenario analysis and forecasting efforts to project long-term financial outcomes, ensuring that financial resources are allocated to initiatives with the highest potential for positive impact.
Budget Planning and Forecasting
Supports the University’s budget process through the development of long-term financial forecasts that balance short-term operational needs with long-term growth opportunities, ensuring that the University remains financially robust while achieving its mission.
Treasury and Cash Management
Oversees the University’s treasury operations and banking relationships, including cash management, liquidity planning, and debt portfolio management, in partnership with the Controller, ensures resources are available to support university operations and strategic initiatives.
Enterprise Risk Management ( ERM )
Designs and implements a comprehensive risk management framework to identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, and strategic risks, optimizing resource allocation while managing exposure. This includes developing and overseeing the University’s insurance strategy and portfolio in collaboration with brokers and insurers to ensure adequate coverage, minimize financial loss, and safeguard operations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is required.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in finance, strategy, and/or analytics, ideally within higher education, large non-profit organizations, or a complex corporate environment.
Experience leading projects and teams as well as acting as a consultative partner.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
Management or strategy consulting experience.
Minimum Salary: $200,000
Maximum Salary: $220,000
