    Summary:

    The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator provides trauma-related prevention and outreach education and training to healthcare providers (i.e., nurses, EMS providers, other healthcare providers) and intended target audiences. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator organizes the Trauma Program’s injury prevention processes and initiatives for the program across the continuum of care. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator also collaborates with the professional community and develops relationships with other agencies and organizations with the goal of enhancing trauma-related care and relations of those in the community/region(s).

    Responsibilities:

    + Plays an integral role in research efforts related to trauma center data analysis and evidence-based research activities.

    + Oversees the Trauma Program’s injury prevention and outreach programs to maintain Trauma Center verification and designation are met for outreach education and injury prevention, including related Performance Improvement initiatives.

    + Ensures compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACS), North Carolina Office of EMS, and local trauma designation standards for injury prevention and outreach standards.

    + Maintains required documentation to support compliance in conformance with UNC Health Pardee Doctors’ Hospital, ACS and local and State standards.

    + Develops and implements injury prevention and outreach programs based on trauma registry data needs assessment and community / regional needs.

    + Directs community trauma prevention programs by developing, implementing and evaluating programs for targeted populations in the community related to injury prevention and other topics identified through needs assessment of the community.

    + Plans activities based on Performance Improvement indicators and evaluates effectiveness of plans.

    + Attends Trauma Committee meetings to present information related to community education, injury prevention, and outreach.

    + Monitors performance for universal screening for alcohol use and ensures all patients who have screened positive must receive an intervention (i.e., SBIRT) by appropriately trained staff prior to discharge, ensuring documentation is complete.

    + Reports the effectiveness and monitoring with the Trauma Program Director, Trauma Medical Director and reports to the Trauma Committees.

    + Develops, implements and monitors mental health screening initiatives to screen patients at high risk for psychological sequelae.

    + Evaluates the impact of injury prevention activities.

    + Collaborates with Trauma Program team members, surgeons, nursing, ancillary, other department leaders on injury prevention and outreach initiatives.

    + Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital and with physicians, patients and their families related to injury prevention activities.

    + Works closely with Emergency Medical Service providers, Law Enforcement Agencies, public health authority, regional trauma program coordinators and the community.

    + Maintains a high level of expertise and professional growth related to the care of the trauma patient through review of current literature (e.g., Emergency Nurses Association, Society of Trauma Nurses, Centers for Disease Control, SafeKids, etc.) available on injury prevention.

    + Remains knowledgeable on injury prevention legislation activities (locally, regionally, and nationally).

    + Collaborates with public affairs and marketing on injury prevention materials and initiatives for the hospital and community.

    + Coordinates activities supporting the Trauma Survivor Network and acts as a representative for the facility’s Trauma Program.

    + Prepares reports at the direction of the Trauma Care Program Manager.

    + Acts in a pivotal role for Continual Readiness activities for inspections of the Trauma Service.

    + Represents Trauma Services at various internal and external committees and forums.

    + Completes all mandatory education requirements of UNC Health Pardee and the Trauma Services department.

    + Promotes teamwork and positive relationships and collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.

    + Identifies sources for funding of injury prevention related projects, including project proposals and grant applications.

    + Acts in accordance with facility privacy policies and adheres to HIPAA regulations.

    + Performs other duties and special projects assigned by the Trauma Program. Director such as supporting the completion and accuracy of the Trauma Registry, and support of the Process Improvement work.

    Qualifications:

    Required

    + Bachelor’s Degree (equivalent work experience may be accepted as determined by the Trauma Program Director) with current licensure in North Carolina.

    + Current license to practice as an LPN, RN, RN compact license, Physical Therapist, or Occupational Therapist in North Carolina

    + Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in specialty role r

    + Stop The Bleed Instructor

    + BLS Certification

    Preferred

    + 3 years of recent experience in Trauma preferred

    + Injury Prevention and Outreach experience preferred

    + Project management skills

    + ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC instructor status preferred

    + Approved courses in Trauma Registry, ICD-10 Coding, AIS Coding, Approved Injury Prevention Course

    + Strong computer and hospital informatics skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint

     

    Familiarity with American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and North Carolina Office of EMS Trauma Designation requirements
