    Job Summary

    The Student Health Services is seeking an Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention Specialist. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

     

    Student Health Service’s ( SHS ) mission is to provide leadership for the health and wellbeing of the university community. SHS provides a comprehensive care clinic and extensive health promotion services to Oregon State University students. SHS is part of the Division of Student Affairs.

     

    As a part of the health promotion services offered, the Alcohol & Other Drug ( AOD ) Prevention Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive strategies and programs to reduce high-risk alcohol and other drug use among Oregon State University students. This position works collaboratively with campus departments, students, and community partners to foster a culture of wellbeing, safety, and harm reduction. This position will collaborate with the Substance Use Clinician for early intervention educational programming and will have opportunities to connect with the Collegiate Recovery Community. Additionally, this role will work with student employees to provide support and mentorship related to peer education efforts.

    10% SERVICE TO STUDENT HEALTH AND UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY

    What You Will Need

    + Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, health education, teaching, college student services administration, psychology, social work, counseling, or related degree and 2+ years’ experience directly related to alcohol and other drug prevention education, health promotion, public health, other prevention education, teaching, and/or harm reductionORBachelor’s degree in relevant field (see above) and 5+ years directly related experience (see above)

    + Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, as a leader and colleague

    + Effective front-of-the-room teaching and facilitation abilities

    + Experience developing or adapting and implementing inclusive curriculum and/or programs for varied audiences

    + Successful experiences building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with multiple constituents, community partners, and colleagues

    + Experience successfully collaborating in a team environment with diverse individuals

    + Ability to manage conflict, unexpected circumstances, or the need to shift direction while remaining calm and thoughtful

     

    This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

    What We Would Like You to Have

    + Specialized training or education in dynamic facilitation, motivational interviewing, cross-cultural dialogue, applied improvisation, coaching or other similar skills

    + Experience training, supervising, and evaluating (student) staff

    + Experience in Higher Education setting

    + Certified Health Education Specialist ( CHES ) or other relevant certifications

    + Experience in grant writing and/or executing grant-funded initiatives

    Working Conditions / Work Schedule

    Office environment and periodic healthcare environment. Various events and activities across campus and periodically outdoors. Typically works Monday – Friday 8-5, but schedules may vary based on needs of campus partners or delivery of service. May include flexing schedule to accommodate periodic evening or weekend hours.
