    Job Description

    Terms: BASAS, Group 10B, 211 days

     

    The ideal candidate will oversee our special education department, EL programming and assessment management. They will plan, supervise, and evaluate all Special Education and ELL staff on an ongoing basis to include program development, instructional methodology, and student assessments including rules based reading and ACCESS. They will serve as our LAT.

     

    The candidate will serve on the Inclusion Planning Team as well as provide support with professional development on inclusive practices. The preferred candidate must have strong data analysis skills and familiarity with Aspen, MAP NWEA, and Panorama. Additionally, the candidate will support the coordination of Advanced Placement (AP) Exams and provide support for MCAS testing.

     

    Reporting to the Head of School, the Assistant Head of School for Special Education and Student Services is responsible for the coordination of special education services and programs, 504 services/programs, Accommodation Plans, ELL services/programs, McKinneyVento services, Home and Hospital services, and special district transportation in accordance with state and federal law.

     

    Reports to: Principal/Head of Schools

    Responsibilities

    + Effectively works with the Head of School to develop and monitor district policy and administrative regulations related to student growth and achievement.

    + Uses strategic initiatives and school performance data to identify appropriate professional development opportunities for staff within the departments.

    + Supervises, evaluates, and coordinates the Special Education Programs including special Education transportation, 504 services, ELL Program, McKinney-Vento services, and supervising the maintenance of the central record-keeping system.

    + Plans, supervises, and evaluates all Special Education and ELL staff on an ongoing basis to include program development, instructional methodology, and student assessments including rules based reading and ACCESS.

    + Evaluates existing programs in relation to stated objectives for improvement and efficiency, and to identify new program needs.

    + Ensures that the team process is actively and effectively implemented in accordance with state and federal regulations; works with teams to find the best combinations of educational and other services for students in need of any services.

    + Establishes an array of intervention models and programs for students who are at-risk and low achieving as well as those who are in need of tutoring and additional support.

    + Assists in the recruitment of Special Education, ELL, and all support personnel, and evaluates staff in pertinent areas.

    + Assists in the adaptation of school policies to include special education, 504, ESL, and other related student services needs.

    + Assists the Head of School and the administrative team in the coordination of Special Education, and student support services and collaborates with regular educational programs.

    + Directs the development of curriculum standards to meet student needs, as well as the development, scheduling and implementation of services.

    + Manages development, preparation, and submission of required local, state, and federal reports.

    + Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

    Qualifications - Required:

    + Education : Master's Degree in Education or related field.

    2. Three (3) years experience successful teaching experience.

    3. Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific).

    4. Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

    5. Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image.

    6. Experience with budget preparation and implementation.

    7. Advanced technology skills

    + Experience with full process involved in the development and implementation of a master schedule.

     

    Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

    Qualifications - Preferred:

    + Teaching experience in a K-12 educational setting.

    2. Experience as a school administrator.

    Terms: BASAS, Group 10B, 211 days

     

    The BASAS contract year runs from September 1 through August 31. All BASAS members are must work 183 school days with teachers. The additional days beyond the 183 school days shall be agreed upon with your supervisor. These days shall be considered ‘non-scheduled work’ days and should be coded by your supervisor or secretary as ‘S6500’ in the timesheet. The additional days may be fulfilled before, during, or following the school year, all work must be completed between September 1 and August 31.
