The Specialist/Sr Specialist, Operations Communications is part of the Operations Communicatons team within the Global Engagement Division.
This role develops communication in support of American’s operation, particularly the Safety Department and Integrated Operations Center, telling the operation’s story to internal and external audiences.
What you'll do

• Develop compelling communications plans to help American’s stakeholders — internal and external — understand the operations of the airline as well as important business decisions.
• Regularly pitch new and creative ways to tell the story of American’s operation, internally and to the media.
• Identify and support communications channels and processes to communicate with frontline team members as well as leadership, support staff, media, customers and the general public.
• Collaborate and coordinate with internal departments to ensure safety messaging is communicated to team members system wide.
• Help support the airline’s peak operating periods (e.g., summer, key holiday travel periods) by developing storytelling strategies about American’s preparedness and operational execution.
• Support the company’s senior operational leadership, including preparation for media interviews and speechwriting.
• Uphold the integrity of the Global Engagement team by developing and maintaining strong relationships with people across the airline.
• Assist with media response efforts and assume “on call” duties a few times a year.
• Occasionally travel to airports and other critical operational locations to support local events and storytelling opportunities.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/training
• 3 years of relevant work experience in communications
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• 5 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations
• Experience working in corporate communications or media relations for a large, multi-national organization or agency
• Basic aviation/airline knowledge

• Maintains a keen attention to detail and accuracy, even in high-pressure situations
• Is a strong team player with ability to work successfully at all levels of the organization
• Proficient with the Microsoft 365 Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
