8 hours per day, 9 months per year
This is a temporary position funded for two years with the possibility of a third year.
We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). All applications are considered and reviewed. Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences or other related field from an accredited college or university
+ Substance Use Disorder Professional certification or Certified Prevention Professional
+ Graduate level degree in Behavioral Sciences preferred or ESA certification preferred
+ Demonstrate case management/record keeping skills
+ Demonstrate knowledge in alcohol and/or drug abuse federal confidentiality laws
+ Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of substance abuse assessment, intervention, treatment and recovery process for adolescents and families
+ Demonstrate ability to work successfully with children, parents
+ Demonstrate ability to work with school staff, including teachers, administrator and non-classified staff
+ Demonstrate knowledge and experience in school based student assistance programs
+ Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Other Requirements:
+ Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds
+ Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
Essential Functions:
+ Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
+ Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our students
+ Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
+ Provide students with pre-assessment screening for substance abuse, mental health issues and other social service needs
+ Serve as a consistent adult during the student’s involvement EPSDT screening, assessment and treatment services
+ Facilitate access to needed social services that will augment and/or reinforce the treatment for chemical dependency
+ Provide support for students including, but not limited to, discharged from a chemical dependency program or leave treatment prematurely in order to reconnect the youth to treatment
+ Advocate for the student’s health and treatment needs with the treatment provider
+ Available to problem solve when there is a crisis in the student’s treatment plan
+ Availability to students and families, including evening Insight Program
+ Participate as a team member of the school student assistance teams including behavior support team
+ Maintain all valid certificates, licenses, endorsements and permits as required by state and local authorities
+ Maintain and have available for use a personal automobile to accomplish duties required for the performance of responsibilities
+ Develop building linkage with assessments and treatment programs, juvenile justice and DSHS, mental health services and the health district
+ Assist students and families in accessing and sustaining needed mental health, drug and alcohol, and other community services
+ Confer and consult with parents and/or guardians regarding student needs and provide support and education for parents and/or guardians
+ Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
