    What we want

     

    The Senior Psychologist, with administrative supervision, provides mental health counseling and outreach that is responsive to the unique backgrounds and needs of individuals, couples, and groups. Offers training seminars, provide professional expertise to campus partners, and may supervise assigned staff, including early-career clinicians and graduate trainees. Assists in the coordination and delivery of services within University Health Services and contributes to the development and implementation of innovative programs that address the evolving needs of the student population. S upports the mission of University Health Services by fostering the mental well-being and the holistic development of Texas A&M students.

     

    What you need to know

     

    Salary: will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.

    Schedule: This position may occasionally require a flexible schedule for evening and weekend work for outreach and/or crisis response.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience

    + Doctorate in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP).

    + Five years full-time equivalent, independent licensure experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting.

    Required Licenses and Certifications

    + Licensed Psychologist (LP).

    + Licensed in the State of Texas as a psychologist within one year from date of employment.

    + Must maintain licensure for continued employment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + 7 or more years of experience providing mental health services in a college or university setting or other closely related setting.

    + Demonstrated experience working with students that are representative of the TAMU Student Population.

    + Experience supervising or training early-career clinicians, such as doctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, or practicum students.

    + Strong background in providing psychological assessments, group therapy, outreach programming, and consultation services.

    + Ability to provide clinical counseling in more than one language utilized by A&M students.

    + Training in evidence-based practices and/or related areas of specialization.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Ability to work as a generalist who serves all students presenting concerns.

    + Clinical expertise in multiculturally informed counseling, consultation, crisis intervention, campus engagement, program coordination/development, training and supervision.

    + Ability to assess for risk, manage crisis situations, and hospitalize when appropriate.

    + Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    + Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.

    + Adherence to the Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for the Texas State Licensing Board, the American Psychological Association, and all relevant federal and state laws.

    + This position may direct and/or evaluate the work of others.

    Responsibilities

    Clinical Services & Supervision Provided

    + Provides mental health counseling as well as crisis intervention to individuals, couples, and groups.

    + Independently assesses clients, creates treatment plans, and provides clinical services and referrals.

    + Independently manages complex and high-risk situations.

    + Provides clinical and/or administrative supervision to staff and trainees including review of recorded sessions and case review.

    + Provides and/or supervises psychological assessment services.

    + Engages in case management and referrals.

    + Delivers mental health related outreach, presentations and workshops to students, faculty, and staff.

    + Provides consultation to faculty, staff, trainees, students, and families regarding student mental health and well-being.

    + Mentors early career professionals in creating treatment plans and providing clinical services.

    + Consults with other professionals when managing complex and/or crisis situations.

    Departmental Needs

    + At times of high student need, flexes schedule to provide additional clinical services including appointments, outreach, and crisis services as needed.

    + Participates in departmental, division and university committees, meetings and special initiatives.

    + Represents UHS in professional presentations and community engagement efforts.

    + Supports administrative functions and continuous improvement efforts.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Administrative Duties

    + Meets ethical obligations for timely documentation of counseling services per State of Texas licensure requirements and University Health Services policies.

    + Supports clinical operations through organizational and administrative tasks related to client care.

    + Provides professional development and training seminars for early career professionals.

    Professional Development

    + Per state licensure requirements, participates in continuing education and professional development activities related to the performance of job functions, emerging trends in college mental health and maintenance of skills in one’s professional specialty area.

    + Maintains currency of practice through professional literature review, organizational and/or applied research, and evaluation activities.

    + Provides presentations based on clinical expertise and relevant continued education/professional development to meet departmental needs.

    Other Requirements and Factors

    + The individual in this position may be required to handle Personally Identifiable Information1 (PII) as defined by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (https://studentprivacy.ed.gov/ferpa) regulations and Protected Health Information2 (PHI) as defined by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/privacy/index.html) regulations. The individual is required to handle PII and PHI in accordance with University Health Services (UHS), Texas A&M University System policies, and all applicable federal regulations.

    + 1PII includes information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, either alone or when combined with other personal or identifying information.

    + 2PHI refers to any health information that can be linked to a specific individual and is protected under federal privacy regulations.

    + FERPA and HIPAA training are required upon employment and must be completed on a recurring basis as determined by policy and job duties
