    Position Summary/Description:

    The Associate Director for Instructional Technology will provide leadership and direction in the effective use of instructional technology at the Adams School of Dentistry ( ASOD ). This is a key position in instructional technology services planning, organization, administration, and evaluation as well as the integration of contemporary and emerging technologies to increase efficiency and productivity in the academic goals of the institution. The Associate Director will supervise two classroom support consultants to support academic operations at the ASOD . The position will require close collaboration with other members of the Academic Support Center, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Information Technology, Support Services, various academic departments, and others to ensure the effective delivery of instruction.

     

    The Associate Director will manage instructional systems utilization at the ASOD to support the school in the administration of their education program. This includes but is not limited to learning management systems ( LMS ), testing software, and classroom hardware and software. In addition, this position will be instrumental in training faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders in the use of all instructional technology. This position requires substantial instructional technology expertise to monitor, assess, select, and deploy technologies to meet current and future needs. In collaboration with the classroom support analysts, Associate Director will manage the installation of new classroom hardware and software as well as the rollout of new instructional technologies. They will lead communication efforts on old and new instructional technologies to all stakeholders, support in managing the budget and timelines of instructional technology projects, evaluate the implementation of new technologies, and plan to meet future needs of the institution related to instructional technologies. This position will supervise the team that is responsible for setting up classroom instructional technology and responding to the classroom support phoneline. The Associate Director will ensure successful implementation and management of high-quality, best-practice systems, to support and enrich teaching and learning in support of the institution’s educational mission.

     

    This role assumes key leadership responsibilities to ensure the continuity of academic support services and faculty development. Primary duties include managing CODA -specific assignments to maintain accreditation compliance, preparing required documentation, and supporting faculty in meeting accreditation standards.

     

    The Associate Director is also responsible for designing, creating, maintaining, and tracking a variety of high-level curricular projects and web sites. This includes but is not limited to: Canvas project sites such as the Faculty Calibration site and DDS curricular onboarding site; Sharepoint sites, such as The Commons faculty/staff hub and the Student Commons hub; and e-Learning projects such as learning trainings and faculty calibrations.

    Education and Experience:

    Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree in the assigned discipline and three or more years of experience in teaching, educational testing, or instructional design and curriculum development, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

     

    Experience in higher education supporting faculty in use of learning management system ( LMS ), lecture capture, multimedia and video production, remote conferencing and collaboration, and production of web-based course tools. Experience working on both PC and Mac platforms.

     

    Designing and delivering solutions to support active learning. Experience with digital accessibility standards and/or delivering accessible course content. Ability to work both independently and as an individual contributor, and collaboratively as a team leader or member. Experience in project management, including managing time, establishing priorities, and meeting milestones and deliverables. Ability to work effectively with a diverse community made up of individuals from a variety of disciplines with a wide range of pedagogical, organizational, and technological skills.

     

    Experience supervising and/or leading a team. Teaching experience is a plus. Experience working with instructional technology vendors is a plus.

    Essential Skills:

    Experience in providing instructional technology support in a higher education environment. Experience collaborating with and providing direct support to faculty instructors. Technical expertise required in LMS utilization, test administration, instructional technologies tools like Panopto, Echo 360, Poll Everywhere, Articulate 360, and classroom technologies such as Canvas, eMedley, and Extron/Intron Systems. Experience in successful project management.
