Description We are looking for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in Upland, California. This is a long-term contract position within the local government sector, where you will play a critical role in maintaining financial records, ensuring compliance with policies, and supporting key accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in corporate tax, sales tax, and financial documentation while contributing to the organization's overall financial integrity.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and manage accounting tasks related to the city's financial recordkeeping, reporting, and control systems.

• Process purchase orders, invoices, and payment claims, verifying accuracy and compliance with city policies and resolving discrepancies where needed.

• Handle accounts receivable invoicing, database maintenance, and recordkeeping to ensure timely and accurate financial documentation.

• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget by compiling worksheets, schedules, and statistical data.

• Prepare and reconcile journal entries, ledgers, and other financial records to ensure compliance with established accounting procedures.

• Review and process payroll records, including time sheets, tax withholding, benefits, and personnel transactions.

• Manage vendor accounts, including reconciliation and payment processing, while maintaining up-to-date vendor lists.

• Process CalCard payments and reconcile associated accounts to maintain accurate financial tracking.

• Monitor departmental purchasing activities, ensuring compliance with authorized limits and maintaining accurate records of bids and vendor evaluations.

• Provide support for audits and assist in preparing financial reports for city council ratification. Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a related field.

• Strong knowledge of journal entries and general ledger management.

• Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.

• Ability to compile and analyze financial data accurately and efficiently.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

• GAAP knowledge and strong Excel experience required
