    JOB DESCRIPTION

    This position may be eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of remote work and in-office reporting), with the coordination and approval of the appropriate supervisor. The position is located in and will report out of Columbus, OH.

     

    Position Title: Director of Electrical Engineering

     

    Reports To: VP of Generation Operations and Development

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt

     

    Basic Functions: Responsible for managing safe electrical operations and maintenance of all generation assets, as well as project engineering.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Manages electrical engineering department in support for current and future power generation equipment and associated facilities owned and operated by AMP.

    2. Provides support for scheduled outage management and troubleshooting for any unscheduled event for all AMP’s generation facilities.

    3. Provide assistance to Members’ on an as-requested basis regarding electrical systems and equipment. Works with the outside entities with projects that require permits, interconnection applications and other support for the Members.

    4. Manages electrical engineering support in all aspects of projects and assignments, including:

    • Power Generation and related systems

    • Safety including Lock-Out Tag-Out, arc flash and other systems

    • Power systems protection and relays

    • Project monitoring, coordination, and reporting

    • Proposal review and evaluation

    • Coordination with internal departments and external entities

    5. Performs detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications; Directs manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, and codes.

    6. Manages department activities related to North American Electrical Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance, maintenance, testing, reporting and tracking for all electrical related items associated with applicable generation assets.

    7. Develops, manages, and completes power generation projects focusing on electrical safety and upgrades including preparing work scopes, reviewing contract terms and conditions, preparing requests for proposals and associated bidding documents, and evaluating bids.

    8. Oversees preparation and review of technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems, and technical reports to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards.

    9. Develops capital project programs for new equipment and major repairs; develops budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs. Administers the monthly budget variance report to track AMP’s cost utilizing reports from Oracle.

    10. Prepares contract documents and submits to management; assists with guiding contracts through approval process.

    11. Conducts field surveys and study maps, graphs, diagrams, and other data to identify and correct power system problems.

    12. Assignments may require oversight of subcontracted technical support teams and/or subcontracted field crews.

    13. Provides/reviews reports, presentations, and feedback to AMP Board of Trustees and others as requested.

    14. Attends and represents AMP at meetings of interest to management.

    15. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering. Professional Engineering registration is a plus.

    2. Minimum five (5) years of experience in engineering, or engineering related type work. Electrical generation experience and municipal transmission and distribution electric system experience is a plus. Other combinations of skills and experience may be accepted.

    3. Significant knowledge in the field of electrical engineering and design for power industry, covering power generation, transmission, safety and distribution is plus.

    4. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

    5. Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft software; experience with AutoCAD and project planning and controls software applications is preferred.

    6. Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

    7. Must demonstrate the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems with little supervision.

    8. Job requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude in a collaborative team environment.

    9. Job requires attention to detail and being thorough in completing work tasks.

    10. Job requires a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.

    11. Must be willing to travel 25% as part of the job responsibilities.
