    Description

    The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Fitness Instructor with the Recreation Department. The ideal candidate will be passionate about health and fitness, possess excellent communication skills, and have the ability to lead individual or group workouts that inspire and challenge clients to meet their goals. The Fitness Instructor is responsible for creating safe, effective, and engaging exercise programs tailored to a variety of fitness levels.

    Examples of Duties

    + Design and lead group fitness classes such as aerobics, yoga, strength training, Zumba, senior fitness, or other specialty programs

    + Modify routines to meet the needs and skill levels of participants, including seniors, youth, and individuals with disabilities

    + Monitor class participants to ensure proper technique and safety

    + Greet and engage with patrons to build positive relationships and encourage regular participation

    + Ensure equipment is used appropriately and maintained in clean, safe condition

    + Track attendance and report class participation to the Recreation Supervisor

    + Assist in promoting fitness programs through community outreach and event participation

    + Respond to emergencies and incidents according to City policy and complete incident reports as needed

    + Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and City-sponsored events as required

    Typical Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    + Experience working with diverse populations (e.g., seniors, teens, adaptive recreation)

    + Bilingual abilities (preferred but not required)

    + Knowledge of City recreation policies and procedures

    + Background in health education or community wellness programs

    Education, Certification and Experience:

    + Must be at least 18 years old

    + High school diploma or GED equivalent

    + Certification in Group Fitness Instruction or Personal Training from a recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, YMCA)

    + Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification

    + Experience leading group fitness classes, especially in a community or recreational setting

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    + Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
