    Requirements

    The Community Director administers the residence life program for one community housing 250-500 students. Duties include supervision and development of the resident assistant staff and design of cultural, educational and social programming. The Community Director, with the RA staff educates students through the development of leadership, exposure of challenging experiences and ideas, and through community investment in an established code that emphasizes respect for self and others. Managing the occupancy, safety, and security of the residential area they oversee, additional duties may include, but are not limited to:

     

    + Play a vital role in supporting the departmental conference operations

    + Serve as positive ambassadors of the University and Residential Living mission, vision and values within their teams, communities, and across campus.

    + Living in the assigned residential area, work primarily in an office or desk workspace using a university issues laptop computer; Some meetings or events in other buildings or off campus.

    + Be on-call for 24 hours of duty, responding quickly to emergencies (behavioral, health related and physical plant) and other needs when they arise.

     

    Work InteractionsThe Community Director, reporting to an Assistant Director, supervises 5 to 12 Resident Assistants, provides direct services to resident students, serves as a University hearing officer, participates in an on-call duty rotation, and is a primary on-site responder to campus emergencies. Community Directors also work closely with one or more Chaplains in Residents and Faculty in Residence (where applicable) to offer ongoing support and programmatic engagements for the residents of their communities. The Community Director is a critical member of Georgetown’s Safety Net and works closely with the Georgetown University Police Department and other Student Affairs offices to respond to student emergencies, including mental health crises, facility emergencies, injury and other concerns. Community Director serve on an emergency response duty rotation for all on-campus students and respond nightly to significant student issues.

    Requirements and Qualifications

    + 1 year residence life/housing or related experience

    + A completed Master's Degree is required, preferably in the area of Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling or Social Work

    + An awareness and understanding of the Jesuit values and the ability to conceptualize them in the application of this role

    + Cell phone use, laptop computer use and emergency radio use are requirements of this position

    + Thorough understanding of and commitment to the work of Residential Living as well as the education and character development of college student

    + Demonstrated experience in the areas of leadership, supervision, professional development, administrative skills, social justice & inclusion, community development, educational engagement and emergency response.

    + Ability to manage stress, conflict and frustration constructively; demonstrate a positive attitude. Identify, define and apply creative and original approaches to resolving issues and use sound judgment based on training and departmental policies and protocol

    Pay Range:

    The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

    $41,926.00 - $65,090.00

     

    Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
