    Description

    The English Department is seeking two collaborative, detail-oriented, and student-focused individuals to serve as Department Coordinators. These positions support the department chair in the day-to-day coordination and administration of department functions. While many responsibilities are shared, each coordinator will have a specific area of academic oversight. Both coordinators will work closely with faculty, adjunct instructors, and campus stakeholders to ensure a cohesive, high-quality English learning experience for students.

     

    Examples of Duties

    Shared Responsibilities

    + Provide direct administrative and instructional support to the Department Chair.

    + Assist in recruiting and coordinating adjunct faculty and their classroom observers.

    + Support the chair in course scheduling.

    + Assist in the procurement of course texts and classroom materials.

    + Provide guidance to adjunct faculty on curriculum, course content, pedagogy, and instructional strategies.

    + Meet regularly with the chair to advise on instructional issues and faculty concerns.

    + Advise the chair on continued employment status of adjunct instructors.

    + Assist with assessment activities and related reporting activities.

    + Represent the English department at Chairs/Coordinators Committee and Academic Affairs Council meetings, including the August retreat.

    + Collaboratively set the agenda for and facilitate English Department meetings.

    + Support the chair in ensuring the department is represented at student recruitment and engagement events.

    + Collaborate with placement and advising to improve student placement and progression in English classes.

     

    Position 1: Coordinator – Developmental Education & ALP/Composition Pairings

    Specific Duties:

    + Advise on course offerings and instructional quality for Developmental English and Accelerated Learning Program (ALP)/Composition pairings.

    + Work with faculty and support services to ensure effective alignment and scaffolding of developmental education pathways into credit-bearing coursework.

     

    Position 2: Coordinator – Composition & Literature

    Specific Duties:

    + Advise on course offerings and instructional quality for standalone Composition I, Composition II, Creative Writing, and Literature courses.

    + Ensure alignment between Composition I & II outcomes

     

    Supplemental Information

     

    This is open to internal current Full Time faculty only of the English and Arts and Humanities Departments.

     

    Area coordinators shall receive 3 contact hour reduced load. Depending on the number of sections the Annual Stipend can range between $1,000 - $1,800

     

    Paid sick leave in accordance with NJ Sick Leave Law

     

    Defined Contribution Retirement Program (DCRP) (https://www.nj.gov/treasury/pensions/pension-active-dcrp.shtml)

     

    Eligible part-time employees will be enrolled into the DCRP (Defined Contribution Retirement Plan) pension (https://www.nj.gov/treasury/pensions/pension-active-dcrp.shtml) . Employees contribute 5% of their base salary and the college contributes 3% of base salary. Investment options are managed through Prudential Retirement. Life insurance benefits through DCRP are payable to the beneficiary at 1.5X the member's salary.
