How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
The Public Facilities Technicianassists Metro Transit engineering and facilities division to maintain more than 800 bus shelters, 35 light rail stations, 16 transit centers and more within the Twin Cities seven county area. The Facilities Technician maintains, repairs and cleans facilities ranging from daily operation and maintenance of building operating equipment including but not limited to boilers, HVAC equipment, lighting, glass replacement to operating heavy equipment for landscape and snow removal. The Facilities Technician must have a State of Minnesota CH-C (Chiefs) Boiler's License or higher to be considered for this position. Work is performed on day shifts with weekends off.
Hire: $41.69 hourly
After year one: $44.00 (based on ATU salary rates starting 8/1/2025)
After year two: $46.32 (Subject to contract change, based on ATU salary rates starting 8/1/2025)
This role is eligible to receive a $4,000 Hiring Bonus!
+ $2,000 after the first 30 days of employment, and
+ $2,000 after successfully completing a probationary period.
This posting will establish a six (6) month eligibility pool for current and future openings. It will remain open until all positions are filled.
What you would do in this job
+ Performs fabrication, assembly, installation, repair, cleaning, maintaining, and operating various facilities, equipment, motors, HVAC systems, boilers, exhaust systems and industrial yard equipment.
+ Performs grounds maintenance work, operates equipment for lawn care and snow removal at all Metro Transit facilities, Park and Rides, and other metropolitan locations.
+ Assists painters, electricians and others.
+ Cleans work areas and facilities, indoors and outdoors.
+ Perform snow removal
+ Perform other related duties.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Any of the following combinations of experience (performing industrial/commercial facility systems maintenance duties, including facility maintenance heating systems and boilers ) and completed education (degree field of study in building maintenance related trade such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pipefitting or building maintenance ):
+ High school diploma/GED with two (2) years of experience.
+ Associate degree or two (2) year college or vocational school program.
License Requirements:
+ State of Minnesota CH-C (Chiefs) Boiler's License or higher
+ Class A Commercial Driver's License
+ Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
+ Knowledge of the practices and procedures of industrial/commercial facility maintenance and repair.
+ Knowledge of various mechanical, electrical, plumbing, pneumatic and digital HVAC controls and systems. Knowledge of the care and supervision in the use of strong chemicals.
+ Knowledge of maintenance and repair of facility systems equipment.
+ Knowledge of and skilled in the use of equipment such as : Bobcat, Toolcat, Ventrac, etc… for snow removal or landscaping
+ Skill in use of computers related to diagnosing or troubleshooting electrical problems.
+ Experience with Microsoft Office software and an understanding of construction design drawings preferred.
+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence, ability to communicate in English.

Work Environment:Work is performed in Metro Transit facilities, buildings and outdoors. Some travel is required. May require working in wet or hot, humid non-weather conditions, and in high precarious places up to two thirds of the time. Exposure to hazardous physical conditions such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibration, atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation, hazardous materials such as chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and work space restricts movement, and intense noise may occur on the job.
Physical Requirements: May require lifting up to 50 pounds. May work near moving parts or equipment, in the presence of fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations. May also be required to lift more than 100 pounds with assistance.
