    Job Description:

    The University of Florida Hamilton School of Classical and Civic Education is accepting applications for two (2) academic advisor positions as Assistant In. The anticipated start date is Fall 2025.

     

    Created as a “Center” in 2022, the recently retitled Hamilton School of Classical and Civic Education is the newest academic unit offering degree programs for University of Florida students. The Hamilton School is a multidisciplinary unit at the intersection of the humanities and social sciences with degree programs designed to educate citizens and leaders for tomorrow. Four undergraduate and four graduate degrees have already been approved and will accompany a number of new undergraduate minors in the coming years as curricular options for students. In addition, Hamilton School faculty are active contributors to Quest 1 and Quest 2 coursework as well as offering courses that fulfill civic literacy, Honors, and other university academic requirements. Although the unit has offered coursework since inception, we now stand ready to hire strong academic advisors to support our first students in the majors beginning fall 2025.

     

    The Assistant In Hamilton School Advising, under the supervision of the Senior Associate In Advising and Director for Academic and Student Success, will be responsible for the curricular and experiential advising of Hamilton School undergraduate and graduate students as directed. In addition to advising students on course requirements for Hamilton degree programs, Hamilton advisors will be responsible for advising students on experiential opportunities, such as academic clubs and activities, research opportunities, internship placement, and prestigious awards. Hamilton advisors will mentor students in their academic exploration, knowledge acquisition in scholarly disciplines, and guide them in reaching their full potential.

     

    Hamilton advisors will also support the Director for Academic and Student Success in the central functions of academic advising and student success for the unit. These may include student recruitment, Preview advising/ presentation, club/ organization advisement, internship placement, and other duties as needed. Advisors also may represent Hamilton at university academic functions that support Hamilton goals, such as undergraduate research events, prestigious award mock interviews, and job fairs/ industry events.

    Expected Salary:

    60,000 - 70,000

    Required Qualifications:

    Applicants must be detail oriented and demonstrate the following qualities: a strong ability to prioritize and multi-task in a rapidly changing and fast-paced setting, previous experience in advising/ mentoring roles, and the capacity to work independently as well as within a team. The advisor will need to be willing to learn or possess a strong understanding of the breadth of Hamilton School’s multidisciplinary areas. Possessing strong skills in guiding students to write and communicate orally toward scholarly audiences, including providing written and verbal feedback on application materials is desired.
