Summary This position is located in the Dietary Section under the Division of Clinical Services of the Zuni Service Unit, Zuni, NM. This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of food service and cooking functions, including food preparation, sanitation, and service duties. The incumbent prepares items for regular and modified diets and identifies foods to be served on commonly prescribed diets. The incumbent will report to the Cook Supervisor. Responsibilities Sets up and serves cafeteria lines and tray lines with hot and cold food items, including breakfast items, entrees, vegetables, soups, sauces, salads, desserts, breads, beverages, and condiments. Assembles and weighs or measures ingredients, and prepares food items such as eggs, breakfast meats, cooked cereals, sandwiches, grill items, vegetables, broiled meats, soups, sauces, gravies, pureed foods, convenience foods, salads, gelatins, fruit cups, and hot and cold beverages. Transports soiled dishes to the dish room after meals. Cleans, sanitizes, and stores dishes, trays, and silverware by setting up the dish dishwashing, filling dish machine tanks, maintaining dish machine water and detergent levels, loading, unloading, stacking, and storing dishes and silverware, and cleaning dish machine inside and out. Directs and instructs as necessary Food Service Workers assigned in simpler preparation, service and clean-up activities. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): To qualify for this position you must meet both of the screen-out elements listed below: Ability to do the Work Without More than Normal Supervision: experience and/or training to perform most duties of the Cook, including quantity cooking, on own initiative, subject to only intermittent supervision. Prior experience cooking for large groups of people in institutions, such as schools, hospitals or cafeterias, is desirable. Technical Practices: This pertains to the knowledge of preparing and serving food for consumption. These screen-out elements are a critical self-assessment of the applicant's experience and are essential for satisfactory job performance. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Minimum Qualifications In addition to the above, qualifications will also be determined by comparing your application to the responses on the Assessment Questionnaire against the guidelines found in the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, WG-7404 Series. The questionnaire will assess how your knowledge, skills, and abilities match what the work of the position calls for. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. The Indian Health Service (IHS), National Health Service Corps (NHSC), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) have student loan repayment programs for qualifying health disciplines.
