    Class 1, Step C – Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44– $8,849.03) per month based on the current AFT – College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Faculty Salary Schedule.

     

    Initial salary placement is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.

     

    The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT -Guild, Local 1931 – Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.     The Biology department at Mesa College is comprised of an interdisciplinary, dedicated, student-centered, cohesive group of colleagues. We are looking for an exceptional faculty member to join our team in support of our students, department and our mission. Applications are now being accepted for position of Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences: Anatomy & Physiology, at San Diego Mesa College, beginning Spring 2026. Assignments may include some combination of day and/or evening classes.

     

    While the current vacancies exist at Mesa College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any district facility at the option of the Chancellor.

    Major Responsibilities

    The incumbent reports to the Dean, School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The ideal candidate will be prepared to teach lecture/laboratory courses in Human Anatomy and/or Human Physiology at the undergraduate level, with flexibility based on department needs and faculty expertise. We welcome applicants with strength in either or both disciplines. Additional responsibilities will include planning, developing, and using a variety of teaching methods and materials that support students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds, evaluating students to measure their progress towards achievement of stated course objectives and informing them in a timely manner of their progress in the course, maintaining office hours for student advisement and counseling, participating with other college faculty on department, school and institutional academic committees, assisting in the development and assessment of curriculum, and assuming leadership responsibilities in thedepartment.

    Qualifications

    Master’s in any biological science; OR, Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.

    Desired Qualifications

    The successful candidate will have achieved:

    + Upper division and/or graduate credit coursework in human anatomy, human physiology, and related courses, and/or relevant work experience.

    + Preferably a minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching college level lectures and laboratories in undergraduate-level human anatomy and human physiology.

    + Subject matter mastery in anatomy and physiology.

    + Demonstrated ability to communicate complex anatomical and physiological concepts clearly to diverse populations of community college students.

    + A working knowledge of learning theory and the ability to effectively utilize a variety of appropriate instructional techniques/strategies to engage students in learning the subject matter.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

    + Demonstrated skills and experience to work effectively in a collaborative manner with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and community groups.

    + Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and classified professionals.
