Purpose:
The **Regional Transformative Controls Technology Engineer is** a strategic appointment, guiding the modernization and optimization of manufacturing operations through the deployment of state-of-art control technologies and data-driven solutions, in close collaboration with a global network of experts. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a human-centered digital transformation.
By integrating advanced process controls with human insight and operational excellence, the engineer ensures a balanced approach where technology amplifies human potential; making innovation not only intelligent, but also sustainable and people-driven.
This person will drive the long-term viability of implemented Transformative Control initiatives for the North America market within a global transformation portfolio to deliver significant improvements in process stability, energy efficiency, and equipment reliability, by driving forward the adoption of new technologies, updated processes (Advanced Process Controls - APC), and systems replacements in line with global goals, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams:
+ Partner with global experts to develop detailed execution plans for pilots, trials and data collection.
+ Analyze data and feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
+ Act as a change agent, supporting the mills during the Manufacturing Digital Transformation program activities, as a strategic liaison between engineering, IT, operations, and external partners to ensure seamless integration of new technologies.
+ Influence stakeholders at all levels to align on transformation goals and execution plans.
+ Monitor and optimize control systems to ensure peak performance and alignment with strategic goals.
+ Focused effort on sustaining implemented systems and ensure long-term viability.
+ Support change management and training initiatives that empower employees to thrive in a digitally enhanced environment.
+ Facilitate knowledge transfer and foster a culture of innovation and adaptability.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Execution
+ Act as a key liaison across global experts and mill teams to design and implement transformation roadmaps aligned with Sylvamo’s digital transformation strategy.
+ Lead the planning and execution of pilots and trials, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and operational excellence in partnership with mill teams.
+ Coordinate cross-functional efforts to deploy advanced process controls (APCs) that enhance both human performance and technological capabilities, enabling mill-wide optimization.
+ Ensure seamless integration of new systems through structured execution, proactive risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement.
Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
+ Drives the long-term success with mill teams to sustain pulp, power, and recovery and paper APCs across the Sylvamo fleet in North America including continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of control systems to align with operational goals and sustainability targets.
+ Conduct analysis in order to monitor process performance and resolve technical issues.
+ Provide structured feedback for continuous improvement.
+ Report on system performance and share implementation insights to inform future initiatives.
+ Champion a culture of innovation and digital fluency across mill teams.
Change Leadership & Enablement
+ Serve as a transformation ambassador by fostering a culture of adaptability, innovation, and continuous learning.
+ Support change management and training initiatives to help employees thrive in a digitally enhanced environment.
+ Facilitate knowledge transfer and promote collaboration across global, regional, and mill-level teams.
Project Execution
+ Conduct process analysis and ensure accurate data collection.
+ Validate technical solution proposals for fit, function, and operational benefit.
+ Support the development of detailed project execution plans, including task assignments, equipment installation, and QA/QC processes to ensure on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery.
+ Lead risk assessments and mitigation planning.
+ Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and take proactive steps to address them.
+ Validate model accuracy and system health during commissioning, startup, and tuning.
+ Act as a liaison between vendors and internal stakeholders, including project managers, mill teams, and senior leadership.
Required Skills and Knowledge
+ Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, control systems engineering, or related field. (A master’s degree or Ph.D. is preferred).
+ 5-10 years of experience in Paper, Pulp, Power and Utilities process control and use of APCs, with a strong background in design, implementation, performance evaluations, and maintenance of advanced control systems.
+ Proficiency with measurement principles and technologies, data acquisition systems along with the ability to learn new and unfamiliar systems.
+ Proficiency in process modeling, control theory, and optimization techniques.
+ Experience with data analytics and industrial automation systems.
+ Experience in collaborating with multiple departments such as IT, Operations, Engineering, HR, and external vendors to ensure seamless integration and execution of control systems and digital transformation initiatives.
+ Willingness to travel to North America locations (Eastover, SC, Ticonderoga, NY and Memphis, TN) as required as well as globally (Europe or Brazil) with notice.
+ Strong technical expertise in process control systems including measurement analyzers, QCS, DCS, industrial automation systems, SCADA, PLCs, MPC (Model Predictive Control), and SISO (Single Input Single Output) control strategies.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead by influence, engaging cross-functional teams and driving initiatives without direct authority.
+ Ability to communicate complex subjects in a manner that is understood across stakeholders at all impacted levels of the organization.
+ Ability to influence and engage stakeholders within local organizations.
+ Ability to balance multiple requests and know when to ask for clarification and assistance.
+ Digital transformation experience, preferred.
+ Full MS Office Suite and MS Project experience, preferred.
Language Skills and Travel Requirements
+ This position requires travel to manufacturing sites across United States.
+ Occasional involvement in benchmarking and support initiatives at other Sylvamo locations in Brazil, Sweden, and France.
