Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education
+ High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
Experience
+ A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the elevators/escalators field **_OR_** four (4) years¿ proven experience as a supervisor in a related trade or a service maintenance industry
Certification/Licensure
+ Must acquire within twelve (12) months of hire, National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) QEI-1 certification or equivalent certification recognized in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia jurisdictions
+ Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Preferred
+ Experience in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of elevator and/or escalator equipment
+ National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) QEI-1 certification or equivalent certification recognized in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia jurisdictions
+ OSHA 30 certification

In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor, Elevator/Escalator supervises elevator and escalator mechanics and the effective and efficient testing, diagnosis, problem identification and problem resolution relating to elevators and escalators.
The Maintenance Supervisor Elevator/Escalator oversees the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, test & inspection of WMATA`s fleet of over 1000 Vertical Transportation assets spread throughout D.C. Maryland and Virginia. The incumbent efficiently schedules and supervises work, orders needed materials and enforces Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)of work performed by Certified Elevator Mechanics, Master Tech`s, Apprentices & Helpers.
The incumbent responds to elevator/escalator emergencies, provides reports, performs audits to upper management while focusing on completing both planned and unplanned maintenance work with minimal disruption to Metro`s customers; quickly addressing any elevator or escalator emergencies to ensure passenger safety; provides detailed reports on incidents, maintenance activities, and audits to upper management; conducts regular audits to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency; and performs both planned and unplanned maintenance tasks to minimize disruptions for Metro's customers.
Job Duties
+ Supervises personnel, inspects scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of elevator and escalator repair work. Ensures quality of workmanship, completeness, and compliance with specifications, engineering orders, escalator/elevator codes, layouts and standard maintenance procedures. Prepares accurate and concise oral/written reports on the findings, deficiencies and recommendations for corrective actions, to ensure preventive, scheduled and corrective maintenance is executed safely and efficiently.
+ Creates workplans, schedules outage reductions, executes efficient use of labor, approves overtime where needed. Ensures quality of workmanship, uses Metro`s maintenance management program (Maximo) to analyze data, open, close & update work orders. Ensure correct materials are drawn from stock to progress and complete work with minimal downtime.
+ Prepares accurate and concise oral/written reports on the findings, deficiencies and recommendations for corrective actions, to ensure preventive, scheduled and corrective maintenance is executed safely and efficiently.
+ Supervises subordinates which includes recommending applicant selection, disciplinary actions, effective resolution of grievances, assigning duties, directing work, approving leave requests and timesheets, and ensuring effective and appropriate subordinate training is provided. Guarantees properly skilled employees are obtained and retained.
+ Responds quickly, to elevator and escalator accidents, employee injuries, and critical equipment outages, during and outside of normal working hours, if necessary. Conducts investigations and provides timely written reports of the investigations ensuring safety and alignment with WMATA's performance goals.
+ Directs and works with contractors, as directed, ensuring adherence to maintenance procedures, WMATA work instruction and SOPs.
Other Duties
+ Operates Authority vehicle or utilize Metro Bus or Train as needed between work locations to perform job duties and respond as required.
+ Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.
