The Center for Safe and Secure AI Robotics is looking to hire a post-doctoral associate to carry out research in deep learning methods for robotics. Single robots and swarms are both within the scope of the project. The appointment is for one year, renewable for a second year given the availability of funds. The focus is on fundamental properties of simulated neural networks, like neural scaling laws, as they manifest in metrics specific to robotics and impact robotics applications. The thrust of the research is multidisciplinary. The successful candidate will join a multi-institution research team of faculty at SUNY Polytechnic Institute and Indiana University (IU), Bloomington, consisting of physicists, neuroscientists, engineers, and other researchers investigating biological, artificial, and simulated neural networks (NNs).
The position is based in Utica, NY. It also provides access to research resources from IU Bloomington. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or applied mathematics, and superb computer programming skills. Recommended skills include an advanced command of Python and a language in the C family. Ability and a strong desire to work in a multidisciplinary STEM+Bio team is required as well as the willingness to learn skills that may not be part of your core training. Some familiarity with or interest in robotics and the NVIDIA Isaac software stack is a plus, as is some familiarity with common LISP for working on hybrid AI systems (good old-fashioned AI + NNs).
