The Department of International Health is seeking a **_Sr. Research Specialist ll_** for The Center for Indigenous Health.
The Sr. Research Specialist II makes intellectual contributions in specialized scientific lab or core facility. Examples of core facilities utilizing sophisticated instrumentation would be flow cytometry, high throughput genetics, x-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry, peptide synthesizer, and high-performance liquid chromatography. Capable of troubleshooting, applying specialized scientific knowledge and experience to make decisions, and training/guiding other laboratory personnel.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
+ Develop, design and manage specialized projects and/or instrumentation, coordinates own objectives.
+ Utilize specialized knowledge to set up and run sophisticated instrumentation and interpret results.
+ Act as consultant to refine or adapt methodologies to fit research objectives. Collaborates in development of new protocols and uses of equipment. Advises investigators on experimental design and advises on research methods.
+ Co-author/author publications. Contribute original thoughts, hypotheses, and analysis to write reports, abstracts and manuscripts. Or individual could have significant input in research design and data collection and interpretation based on advanced knowledge/ understanding of activity.
+ Independently perform all research assays specific to the research laboratory interests.
+ Collaborates with other technologists, managers, and faculty both inside, and possibly outside of JHU.
+ Independently develop protocol and criteria.
+ Make decisions regarding research projects that may require assessment, revision of objectives, or altering scientific direction; consider resources and lab priorities when making decisions.

+ Current driver’s license issued by the state of residence and good driving record required.
+ Ability to travel with overnight stays required as needed. Some evening, weekend and holiday work will be required.
+ This position will maintain background clearance as required by the employer and any collaborating agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
+ Five years' experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s Degree.
+ Native language speaker.
+ Ability to translate technical medical/public health terminology and concepts into relatable language and examples.
+ Knowledge of local geography and culture, prior work experience in this or similar community settings.
+ Prior research experience.
+ Experience in protocol and informed consent writing, data analysis, grant writing, and /or manuscript preparation required.

Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)

The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting.
