    We are seeking a **_ACUC Manager Training & Compliance_** **_,_** that leads staff in supporting the mission of the Animal Research & Care of JHU and works to assure university compliance with federal regulations and policies governing the use of animals in research, and to assure that the animal program remains fully accredited.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    + Manage the semi-annual inspections for all areas of JHU where animals are housed or used in research, teaching, and testing. Documentation may include deficiency notices, follow-ups, and reports.

    + Provide education and training sessions to update staff on federal and state regulations and policies governing the use of animals in research.

    + Regularly teach classes and provide hands on animal training to animal care and lab personnel.

    + Manage and mentor all Training and Compliance staff.

    + Oversee and conduct rounds at animal facilities, satellite housing locations, and labs.

    + Lead and perform focused compliance inspections in the winter & summer.

    + Guide and supervise staff in performing protocol post-approval monitoring (PAM) visits to laboratories and satellite housing locations.

    + Direct collaboration and coordination with other departments (e.g., RAR and HSE).

    + Conduct grant to protocol congruency reviews.

    + Actively participate in the development and management of institutional policies and guidelines as they relate to animal care and use.

    + Manage the development and editing of ACUC Office procedure and guidance documents.

    + Oversee the review of approved protocols for specific procedures; observe & train animal care and lab personnel for proficiency in animal use procedures.

    + Collaborate with staff in creating communication materials: postcards, handouts, and billboards.

    + Lead the Training and Compliance team with the preparation for and finalizing of the compliance related portions of AAALAC Program Description.

    + Serve as subject matter expert to staff in the fact-finding and evaluation of possible noncompliance.

    + As a nonvoting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) report concerns of noncompliance and findings.

    + Review Satellite Housing forms and coordinate with Satellite Housing (SH) Coordinator any concerns prior to approving location. Identify and follow up on animal welfare concerns within SH locations.

    + Conducts/ Leads/ Supports new committee member training with ACUC Director, Supports/ Develops training & compliance processes for veterinary residents in coordination with RAR faculty veterinarians and ACUC Director.

    + Conduct literature searches as needed.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    + Attention to detail and respect for confidentiality.

    + Familiarity with federal regulations and policies regarding the roles and responsibilities of Animal Care and Use Committees.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree required in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Psychology, Behavioral Biology or related field.

    + Five years’ related experience in laboratory animal research, laboratory animal care, or a training and compliance position.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Master's Degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Psychology, Behavioral Biology or another related field.

    + Supervisory experience.

    Technical qualifications and specialized certifications

    + LAT or LATG certification, or veterinary technician training strongly preferred.

    Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)

     

    Employee group: Full Time

     

    Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
