    What You’ll Do

     

    As a Respiratory Therapist at UPMC Cole, you’ll play a vital role in supporting patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. Your responsibilities will include:

     

    • Evaluating medical orders and interpreting clinical data to guide treatment

    • Operating and adjusting ventilators, oxygen therapy systems, and aerosol delivery devices

    • Monitoring patient responses and performing diagnostic tests

    • Assisting with emergency situations and transporting ventilated patients

    • Educating patients and mentoring students or new staff

    • Maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring equipment safety

    • You must be a **graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program** (approved by CoARC).

    • **OR** if you're a student with a **temporary license** , you can start working **with HR approval and official transcripts** .

    • You need to have **Basic Life Support (BLS)** or **CPR certification** that includes both classroom and hands-on training.

    • You must earn your **Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT)** credential from the **National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)** **before your temporary permit expires** .

    • If you received your CRTT **after July 1, 2002** , you’ll need to **keep your certification up to date** according to NBRC requirements.

    *RRTs and CRTs will be considered. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based his/her individual experience, education, and certifications.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

     

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT)

    + Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)

    + Act 33 with renewal

    + Act 34 with renewal

    + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
