    Job Purpose

     

    Handles customer billing accounts, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, processing payments, and resolving discrepancies. Contributes knowledge across team, department and organization and involved in improvement processes.

    Core Responsibilities

    Note: This is not an all-inclusive listing

    + **Data Maintenance:** Uses data management systems to access specific information as and when required. Performs basic data reporting tasks to support others by using established procedures.

    + **Account Maintenance:** Maintains accurate billing records and accounts for assigned customers or accounts. Manages and updates customer contact and billing information in the company’s accounting system.

    + **Billing Processes:** Manages and updates customer contact and billing information in the company’s accounting system, creates final bills. Prepares accounts for billing and mailing. Completes various tasks associated with billing processes including summary billing, non-utility billing and specialty adjustments.

    + **Cash Processing:** Handles cash processing tasks including counting and keying daily cash totals, monitoring daily reports and posting customer payments.

For example, pays attention to others' insights, advice, or instruction, grasping the main elements. Promptly shares relevant information with the right amount of detail.

    Skills

    + Strong attention to detail with ability to review and verify complex billing information.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams.

    + Ability to resolve billing discrepancies and issues efficiently.

    + Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

    + Familiarity with Company software.

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to meet physical requirements of role as identified by the Company’s ergonomic solution assessment.

    Education

    High School or General Education/Equivalency Diploma/GED certificate.

    Experience

    Prior experience in billing, accounting, or customer service; prior experience with billing software or accounting systems is a plus.

    JOB LOCATION

    The position is hybrid, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life. We offer free, on-site parking and are located near biking trails and bus stops. Many employees enjoy the use of our many on-site EV charging stations.
